Medicina
Medicina (general)
Spain: medical history: "Exfumador desde hace 6 meses. No hábito enólico." Is this to be read/translated as "no alcohol abuse"? or does it mean patient does not drink at all? There are 2 KudoZ entries for "enolismo" -- one clearly implying "abuse" (alcoholism) and the other just "consumption". Opinions? Thank you.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer.
Comment: "After this lively discussion, I give you the pts because your translation preserves the ambiguity of the source text (i.e., says nothing definite one way or the other about pt's alcohol consumption -- but we know, at least, pt does not abuse it. Well done!"

: I don't think the normal man on the street would understand this. It's too technical IMO, given the rest of the short context. You've actually given a technical term. For further discussion, I suggest you put your comments in the discussion section.

(no) alcohol consumption / non-drinker

Thank you. "enólico"'s very often used in ordinary medical preliminary reports in Spain, i.e. when you're asked if you smoke, etc. I've had many given to me lately and it's very common although "hábito" isn't used, but, as you say, not in English
