If machine translation is excluded from this poll, then the answer is not at all.
The past year the closest I came to working with AI was a request from a customer to translate an AI prompt, check its effectiveness and adapt it if necessary. I declined the request because that's too far from what I like to do: translation. I wouldn't refuse to translate prompts as such, but everything else: no, thanks.

I'm sick and tired of all the AI nonsense everywhere, including constant ProZ polls.

I used to have a lot of work until 2018. After that, my chinese providers told me that orders dramatically reduced due to technological improvements. And in fact, I started to receive requests for trash projects, trash formats, trash conditions, etc.
But these last 2 years things have actually improved for me a little. I almost don't receive requests for business translation anymore, but short dramas is my new field.

I don't agree with you guys underestimating the impact of AI though. You say you are tired of listening to all the "AI hype" or "AI nonsense"... In fact I am tired of listening to artists saying that "the machine will never do as humans do". The same has happened countless times along the history of technology and many people still don't want to learn.

Have you actually seen the results GenAI delivers in any area, be it visual arts or translation? Have you heard of the horrendous environmental cost of this technology?
We are giving AI - and especially (de)generative AI - WAY too much attention and accepting that LSPs and large industry clients are robbing us blind without ANY improvements in terms of quality. The only thing where this dystopian technology is actually "better" than us is the speed at which it generates its results. No human can sh*t out millions of words within minutes, but what is that good for, anyway? All this non-content either goes unchecked OR human professionals are a natual bottleneck by actually editing (read: completely retranslating) it. | | | Novian Cahyadi Indonesia Local time: 02:36 Miembro 2024 inglés al indonesio |
Considering that this year has only 13 days and down here are the summer holidays.
Will it change my year? Probably yes, but isn't this the year the change started, either. It's been a couple of years since MTPE has more presence, that jobs for annotation have arisen (even here), and that AI in general keeps growing on Web3 apps.
Regarding AI polls, I get the feeling these questions are done to train AI, and we're feeding the LLM with our answers, therefore the hype and... See more Considering that this year has only 13 days and down here are the summer holidays.

There is a lot of fuss surrounding AI, but the reality is that things change, new technologies emerge and work continues.
Since the explosion of ChatGPT two years ago, I've been getting more and more jobs wanting me to translate for AI training/improvement.
I've steadily been declining those jobs, and I'm slowly trying to move back to creative work - translation of novels, etc. But it hasn't been that quick yet. Afrikaans is small, and fiction/poetry/etc. are taken to writers - irrespective of whether they are actually good translators. For the moment, I can deal with it while I'm in Germany. Whether I'd be able to do so next year when we're back in South Africa is another question.
And I agree with Marcel.

How can it change my work if I don't use it?
It didn't change my work, but it did change the kind of offers I get which are getting more and more ridiculous and always revolve around post-editing, QC etc, that I always gladly turn down.

(Subtitling) QC has nothing to do with AI, though. Its purpose is to check linguistics and technical errors in a translated subtitles file. Whether it was done by a human, MT, or ChatGPT is irrelevant. | | | Lingua 5B Bosnia y Herzegovina Local time: 20:36 Miembro 2009 inglés al croata + ...

Yes, but I don't do QC, whether it's done by a human or anything/anybody else, I don't do subtitling either. The point is this type of jobs increased in frequency, or rather it's all I am being offered (I don't respond to such offers). | | | Páginas sobre el tema: [1 2 3] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Has AI (LLMs etc.) changed your day-to-day work this year?
