Hello, I am translating a very technical paper with some aspects of magnetisation. I got to this expression that I cannot fully understand:

We considered the impact of the alignment of magnetisation orientation at the ends of the elements on magnetic reversal characteristics. ... particular scenarios could give us shoulders in the simulated hysteresis of these barcode devices...

My guess is that "shoulders" mean the modelling going up and then down like the shape of a shoulder? I am just not completely sure about this.

As the English is used to describe the shape in the hysteresis curve, I don't see why it couldn't be described as "hombro" in Spanish as well.

neutral Neil Ashby : "shoulders" refers to the shape of the graph, varying away from standard forms; we tend to avoid metaphors in scientific papers, 100% literal.

I think it refers to a sudden jump in the hysteresis curve, but I don't think there is a specific term for it in Spanish (please, do not confuse with point of inflection). Cheers.
