QHE, that's pretty funny. I appreciate the humor.

The styluses I ordered arrived, but they still don't solve my problem. The ones I got are made by Rocketfish. Looking at the tip design of the styluses, they're rubbery and pretty sizable. Suddenly I realized that to generate enough capacitance, you'd need a large enough contact area.

As I mentioned before, one of the main activities I do online is read the news on the CNN website. However, their US edition homepage is so full of info you cannot zoom in due to the limitation of a 9.7" screen. Without being able to zoom in, the news headlines are so tiny and crammed together that it's hard to pinpoint and tap on the desired news item.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/mobile/05/27/ipad.usability.gahran/

NNG brought in 16 people with at least two months' experience using the iPad and systematically tested how they interacted with 26 iPad apps and six Web sites.

Here's what they learned, based on users' feedback, preferences and complaints:

Touchable areas are often too small, too close, not easy enough to discern.

Often, text content is big enough to read, but links in the text are too small to tap easily. Similarly, sites and apps that have too many touchable areas too close together increase the risk of touching the wrong one.

This leads to navigational accidents, which can be especially vexing in iPad apps that lack a "back" button. Also, many touchable areas don't look obviously touchable, so users tend to miss them.

Oh well. I guess there's always a tradeoff.

“A Christmas Carol” Dec 19, 2014

Today is Friday, December 19, the 353rd day of 2014; 12 days left in the year.

On 19 December 1843, “A Christmas Carol”, by Charles Dickens, was first published in London by Chapman & Hall .

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Christmas_Carol

The book was written at a time when the British were examining and exploring Christmas traditions from the past as well as new customs such as Christmas cards and Christmas trees. Carol singing took a new lease on life during this time. Dickens' sources for the tale appear to be many and varied, but are, principally, the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales.

Dickens' Carol was one of the greatest influences in rejuvenating the old Christmas traditions of England, but, while it brings to the reader images of light, joy, warmth and life, it also brings strong and unforgettable images of darkness, despair, coldness, sadness, and death. Scrooge himself is the embodiment of winter, and, just as winter is followed by spring and the renewal of life, so too is Scrooge's cold, pinched heart restored to the innocent goodwill he had known in his childhood and youth. A Christmas Carol remains popular—having never been out of print—and has been adapted many times to film, stage, opera, and other media.

Steve,

Have you tried reading the news through the CNN mobile platform, or using their MOBILE APPS?

The client replied: Yes, you did, but I just love to hear it!

PETER PAN Dec 27, 2014

Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up or Peter and Wendy is J. M. Barrie's most famous work, in the form of a 1904 play and a 1911 novel.

The play and novel were inspired by Barrie's friendship with the Llewelyn Davies family. Barrie continued to revise the play for years after its debut until publication of the play script in 1928.

The play debuted in London on 27 December 1904 …

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._M._Barrie

“There could not have been a lovelier sight; but there was none to see it except a little boy who was staring in at the window. He had ecstasies innumerable that other children can never know; but he was looking through the window at the one joy from which he must be forever barred.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“She asked where he lived.
Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning. ”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“Dreams do come true, if only we wish hard enough. You can have anything in life if you will sacrifice everything else for it.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“To live will be an awfully big adventure.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“To die would be an awfully big adventure.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease for ever to be able to do it.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“If you cannot teach me to fly, teach me to sing.”
― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting.” ― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

“So come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land!”

― J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

We had the soundtrack of the entire show on a set of 45 rpm records. Incidentally, when the Red Guards came to the apartment at the beginning of the Cultural Revolution, they were flabbergasted that the records wouldn't break by smashing them on the concrete floor.

Mary Martin and Cyril Ritchard were simply brilliant in this musical. They both won Tonys in 1955.

BTW, the recent NBC production "Peter Pan Live!" was a big disappointment. IMO, the roles of Peter Pan and Captain Hook were both haplessly miscast.
