I have been an active Proz member since 2006 and only once a potential new client said that he was contacting me because he had looked at the Kudoz leaders for the language pair he was interested in. That’s all in 16 years…

I'm not a Kudoz participant (no time, not interested, whatever ...). However, in the two years I'm on Proz now I have been contacted quite a few times by agencies reaching out, but only 1 or 2 were potentially interesting. My impression is that the most active agencies on this platform are the ones that are hoping to pay as little as possible.

I think Proz is a great way to stay in touch with the translation market and a good way to get some information about translation agencies (if you would be looking for any new ones), but if you want decent new clients, you will have to do the effort yourself to contact them and present yourself. ▲ Collapse | | | Yes, for better or worse! | Apr 28, 2022 |
I used to be very active in Kudoz - and others helped me a lot too.
In all modesty, I am still one of the so-called all-time leaders in my language pair! This placed me near the top in the directory, and has drawn in a lot of offers from outsourcers over the years. Some offers are definitely more interesting than others.
As there are more online resources now than there used to be, there are fewer Kudoz questions altogether. I suspect it is far more difficult to gather points... See more I used to be very active in Kudoz - and others helped me a lot too.

As there are more online resources now than there used to be, there are fewer Kudoz questions altogether. I suspect it is far more difficult to gather points now than it was some years back. I also work in a 'small' language pair, so the competition has never been quite so fierce as in the more widespread languages.
I would still advise anyone to keep an eye on Kudoz, but there should probably be other ways of getting to the top of the directory, IMHO.

The Kudoz-based ranking is totally unfair and anyone can influence it with an offline/online setup, easily. Since this is a professional marketplace so there are many work seekers use to come here to find a job.

This practice only builds a syndicate where some people use others to be on the top. Furthermore, it discourages linguistic discussions which is the pillar of this Kudoz concept.
It must be stopped and ranking must be on random selections then anyone can be on the top for the day or particular time. Otherwise, there is no such fairness indulged in the membership if any can get the benefit by tricks. ▲ Collapse | | | neilmac España Local time: 03:31 español al inglés + ...
I seldom look at my contact e-mail for kudoz and other proz notifications. Most of the approaches I get tend to be spammy or from bottom feeders offering very low rates. Apart from that, I get the occasional collaboration query or a comment from a colleague, but nothing much else.

Where's the option "I don't ever answer Kudoz questions"?
I've only dipped into Kudoz a couple of times, and answered questions on one of my specialist subjects. Once it was Sheila Wilson asking so I was very happy to help her. Other than that, there have been so many threads here about people cheating and other cut-throat behaviour, and I soon saw it just wasn't worth it.

The translators in my language pair with the most points have so many I'd have to work full-time on Kudoz for several months to be able to catch up, it's ridiculous. Not that I even really need new clients at this point. So nope. ▲ Collapse | | | jyuan_us Estados Unidos Local time: 21:31 Miembro 2005 inglés al chino + ...

The fact that they never mentioned your Kudoz points doesn't mean they didn't look at them. IMHO, your argument didn't effectively lead to your conclusion.

Yes and ProZ could be so much more, if they really tried to focus on high end outsourcers willing to pay more ...

Not More Often, But... | Apr 28, 2022 |
...I can think of one client who contacted me because of what she saw of my recent participation on kudoz. I am talking about when it came to pages where I answered others' questions. But I'm glad she did, since it resulted in a single project that amounted to 1,000's of dollars for me.

I stopped answering the KudoZ questions about 2 years ago, yet I'm being contacted more and more since then (other than the mass mailings which I ignore). I don't know if that's related to the few points I have though.

I realized that in most (or perhaps all) ProZ's directories, the list of translators are shown in order according to their Kudoz points, so as I have a lot, my name is first in Peru and very high in other lists. Clients tend to choose translators with the highest rankings, not translator No. 1534 or so. | | | Páginas sobre el tema: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: When the number of your Kudoz points increased, have outsources began to contact you more often?
