español term

no es pesada

español al inglés Ciencias Alimentos y bebidas Meat quality trials - descriptive terms
SPAIN. From a study into consumer perceptions of rabbit meat quality. I was going to simply translate "pesada" as heavy, as in "heavy on the stomach", but a colleague has suggested something else. So, I'd like to brainstorm more opinions on the best way to express this, either in UK or US English, as I'm not fussy this time.

rabbit meat is light and easily digested

rather than "not heavy", I'd just use "light". A light meal....

is lean; is not fatty; contains little fat

In Spain (as you know) "comida pesada" often means "fatty" or "hard to digest" (fried foods, judiones de la Granja followed by cordero asado, etc.)

"digestiva, no es pesada" may refer to the fact that rabbit meat is lean, contains little fat and, thus, isn't heavy, is easily digested.

A possible translation

La carne de conejo es digestiva, no es pesada = rabbit meat is lean and easily digested

Just a possibility

For Ramón, for info (but, anyway, if you find fatty foods "easily digestible", you may have a younger stomach than mine!):

Your body has to work hard to digest fat, which takes up a lot of energy. In fact, fat is the most slowly digested macronutrient, followed by protein and then carbohydrate.

Large amounts of fat can be hard to digest, but it is still important to incorporate it into our diet.

Foods high in fat and fried foods can cause acid reflux and heartburn because they overwhelm the stomach's ability to properly break down its contents. Your stomach finds these foods hard to digest, and slows the entire digestive process. Examples of high-fat and fried foods are...

neutral Ramon Somoza : I agree that "comida pesada" means "hard to digest", but have never heard it in the context of "fatty". Food can be easily digestible, yet very fatty.

On the contrary, fat is the hardest food to digest. I will post some reading material on the subject above.
neutral Robert Forstag : Seems to stray from the source. A food can be “heavy” without being fatty (e.g., as a result of a high carbohydrate content).

Could be, although in Spain I "comida pesada" is often associated with fatty foods and rabbit meat is perceived as being one of the least fatty meats.
agree Carol Gullidge : Lean, easily-digestible meat. See Michael' s comment re avocado. You'd never call an avocado heavy in English despite its high fat content

not difficult to digest / is highly digestible

All answers seem Ok in my view. "Not heavy" would be the most colloquial option.

Meat from rabbit is highly digestible, tasty, low-caloried and often recommended by nutritionists over other meat types.
