Teaching Performance Evaluation System
From a report about the efforts of a public university in the Basque Country to introduce a new evaluation system for teaching staff performance. It is based on the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) framework for qualifications.
This is one of nine "Evaluation Criteria" for the performance evaluation programme being implemented. Other parts of this report mention the "action-reflection-action" approach it is based on, so I can't really avoid the word "reflection" (or a variant of it) here.
Anyone feeling creative today? 'Cause I could use some inspiration:
"4. Orientación a la innovación docente: La actividad docente debe abordarse desde una reflexión sobre la propia práctica que favorezca la formación continua del profesorado, a través de la autoformación o la formación regulada por otras instancias, y debe desarrollarse desde una predisposición a introducir mejoras que afectan al modo en que se planifica y se desarrolla la enseñanza o se evalúan los resultados de la misma."
Going into UK English. Many thanks in advance.

should begin from a position of self-reflectivity/self-reflection
Teachers' activity should begin with reflection on their own practices- if you want to keep reflection. I'm not sure what the differences between relection/reflectivity/reflexivity are, but they are all found in discussions of teaching.

Note from asker:
"From a position of self-reflection" - I like that a lot! Thanks very much Karen. :) |

Comment: "Thanks Karen, and everyone for your help here. Later in the document they start referring to this concept as "autoreflexión" and "autocrítica", so this suggestion works best here I feel.
Cheers :)"

be approached by reflecting the professors' own methods
Just trying to help, but I'm afraid you can't call my suggestion creative.

Charles Davis
: I would definitely change "the professors' own methods" to "one's own methods". // Phil is right that "reflexión sobre" doesn't mean "reflecting"; my agree assumes you intended to put "reflecting on".

Charles, thanks for the moral support! I nearly said "one's" but I decided against it at the last moment as I tend to use it more often than I would like. And, yes, in this case, "sobre" can only mean "on".

: "Profesor" does not mean "professor" (it's "lecturer"), and "reflexión sobre" doesn't mean "reflecting".

Please accept my profuse apologies. I didn't know my "uncreative suggestion" was going to upset you so much. I'll try harder next time.

be tackled with a reflection on one´s own teaching practices in hand/mind
I´ve thought of a few options:
1-be tackled with a reflection on one´s own teaching practices in hand/mind
2- Reflecting on one´s own teaching practices, which favors the faculty´s continuous development/training, must inform teaching...

This should be definitely the term here...
Pls note some of the information contained within my first link,
"In order to learn something from a specific situation or experience, reflection-in-action and reflection-on-action
can be helpful (Griffiths 2000, Schön 1987). Reflective
practitioners, like teacher educators, have to rely on their
former experiences and intuition for doing the ‘right thing’ in
problematic situations because in the practice of teaching, a
teacher (educator) is forced to ‘immediate teaching behavior’,
and doesn’t have time to make an exemplary or ideal choice
(Dolk 1997, Griffiths 2000, Korthagen and Kessels 1999).
Reflection in general can therefore be an instrument from
which much can be learned (Korthagen and Kessels 1999,
Procee and Visscher-Voerman 2004, Simons and Ruijters
2004)."

: You can't say "the own" - your references are bad translations. It's "their own".//I wasn't aware I'd responded to any of your answers before -- I certainly don't do it "systematically". And it IS a solid argument - I'm a native speaker, and you're wrong.

Ok, "their own". Still, your argument is not solid enough to discredit my contribution (which is something that you sistematically do, no matter what I answer). At least, I always include references to support my proposals...// Ok, whatever...

(they) should start by giving thought to their own practices
and what they are doing to .......
I would make the "teachers" the subject
