At a table Dec 27, 2014

I work best at a table, but have not attempted working anywhere else. I have no desk and working from bed or the floor would be somewhat bizarre.

At my desk Dec 27, 2014

To translate I prefer to sit at my desk in my little home office, surrounded by dictionaries and books, but for proofreading (my work or others’ work) I use the dining table which provides more space…

My desk or a table Dec 27, 2014

I couldn't work in a bed, a couch or on the floor. None of those are confortable workplace for me. For comfort, I prefer working on my desktop ( bigger screen ) rather than my laptop. Moreover, in order for me to focus, I need to have "my space". When I sit at my desk, I know it's to work and I daydream or randomly surf a lot less.
I also have pets and they seem to have understood that I should be left alone when I'm at my desk and, on the contrary, they can come and interrupt me to play

Last, I like to have my dictionaries next to me and I am way too lazy to carry them daily from a room to another. Not to mention that it would quickly turn to chaos and I can't work in that.

I don't have a dedicated office, and could work anywhere, but I must work at my desk in my chair keeping proper posture for the sake of my back

Indeed, there's no better place than at my desk with all its "features" and amenities.

At my (hot)desk Dec 27, 2014

I can work at home, but I prefer hotdesking (coworking). I find that's where I work best in terms of productivity, concentration and a having healthy long-term work environment. My second screen and dictionaries are also stored at the office.

in my own personal office with its own LAN at home, separate from other floors, where I can quickly and easily access all of my books, dictionaries and other reference materials.

I also have a fridge that I occasionally fill up with all kinds of beverages, non-alcoholic and otherwise. I can sit back and sip on whatever I want depending on how I am feeling and listen to some of my favorite music.

By the way, it takes less than 30 seconds to roll out of the futon, go down

My floor or couch Dec 27, 2014

Sure, I do most of my work at my desk because that is where my monster desktop is, but I love working on my laptop. I love laying down on my couch and working there. Maybe it's because of the years I spent sleeping and gaming on my couch. Bachelor life ^_^

By the way, Julian, I have you beat! I just roll over and turn on the computer. Sometimes I don't even need to roll over!

I guess we don't work at home, we live at work.

Train Dec 27, 2014

I find it really easy to focus during long-distance train journeys, with almost no distractions, in particular due to slow/intermittent internet connection. Having said that, a café or my home office are also comfortable, as well as a bed, a sofa, or almost anywhere else.

On my desk Dec 27, 2014

I can do without and sometimes I work on my laptop, but I really like to work on my desk, with my desktop, a big display and a real keyboard. It's much faster and comfortable.

I agree that the lack of distraction is an advantage to focus but at the same time, I prefer enjoying those rides as they don't come that often. Moreover, I usually don't count those hours as "availability" hours since it is depending on the train ride itself: how loud the people around are, if there is a power source nearby, if there is a table at disposal, if the train is delayed, how many dictionaries or reference books I would need to carry, what is the goal of the ride (do I need to prepare and focus on the appointment I'm going to or am I traveling for leisure ? There are too many uncertainties and I cannot count a ride as 4 or 6h of work when I cannot guarantee that even 1 will be productive.

A cafe can be a good place once in a while, especially to review the document right after the translation is done and before correcting it.

Anything else (but a table) would be torture for my aging spine. I went through six chairs before I finally found perfection in a low-cost model from Fry's Electronics, of all places. My paper dictionaries are on hanging shelves above my computer; I can reach my favorites without even stretching. Sunshine streams down through two skylights. My dogs lie on a large cushion at my feet. I have a 15-second commute to my bedroom and kitchen. What more could I ask?

Anywhere with wifi Dec 27, 2014

I'll work anywhere with wifi.

Work on the futon, sofa, table or outside would be good.
A table overlooking the beach would be ideal.
Laying on a futon looking out the window at the beach as well.
It would be unusual I suppose but fun.
