En México (tengo hermano doctor) son 7 años de universidad, uno de servicio social y uno de internado. Con eso, y el examen profesional, se gradúan con título de médico general. La residencia la hacen en varios años (creo que entre 2 y 4 según la especialidad).
En EE.UU, copio de un manual para intérpretes médicos de California:
B.A. or B.S. Degree, 4-year College
M.D. Degree, 4-year Medical School
Resident*, 1-5 years of specialization
Fellow, 1-7 years of specialization
*During the first year of residency, they are called interns. All doctors need a minimum of one year of residency before getting a license of any kind.
