Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Lumen (X), Clauwolf, rhandler

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

rhandler Aug 17, 2006:
Está en espanguês (o portunhol): "da" es port., "y" es esp.
Muriel Vasconcellos (X) Aug 17, 2006:
This is a tricky question; I have no idea why colleagues wanted to reclassify it as non-PRO.
spanruss (asker) Aug 17, 2006:
See the examples above (which are obviously Portugues). These are on the same page. Perhaps it's simply a mis-spelling.
rhandler Aug 17, 2006:
O original está em espanhol. Em português diz-se "microvarizes". Seu contexto também está em espanhol.

small varicose veins

"microvarices" is a literal rendering of "microvarizes", and spider veins/telangiectasias are too small to appear on Doppler scans.
Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos (X) : I was about to post the same answer but then yielded to Rachel's "spider veins." Yours is more medically correct.

Thanks. One detail is that ultrasound images cannot reproduce the "spider" images, as it only sees one plane at a time.

From Heritage:

var·ix (v²r“¹ks) n., pl. var·i·ces (-¹-s¶z”). 1. An abnormally dilated or swollen vein, artery, or lymph vessel.
Note from asker:
There is only one hit on the internet for "microvarices" that is from an English original. The rest are translated from Portuguese and Italian. They must be called something else in English.

small capilaries

Small capilaries on your eyes, face and nose can break if you are having a really hard time of it. This does not happen to women who are 'imagining' it, or women who 'it's all in their heads'.

spider veins

I also don't think we use microvarcies much in Englsih. They are usually called spider veins - or telangiectasias for more formal name

Spider veins are the thread-like colored veins most often seen on the surface of the skin. They are most often not as painful as enlarged varicose veins but they are still liable to bleed and worsen without treatment. Spider veins occur most commonly in the legs but are often seen in the face and elsewhere. These spider veins, medically referred to as telangectasias, will not worsen to the point where they will ever become the large bulging varicose veins

Whether you're a man or a woman, you may have noticed fine, little red veins on the nose, chin, or cheeks that weren't there before. These are telangiectasias or facial spider veins, and they appear on both men and women as a normal part of aging. They can also result from pregnancy, childbirth, birth-control pills, estrogen-replacement therapy, sun damage, rosacea, and even corticosteroids. Although not usually a medical problem, telangiectasias can be an aesthetic one that make-up usually doesn't cover adequately.

Varicose Veins
This painful condition, called varicose veins, is extremely common, especially in women. Leg swelling, itching, burning, aching, and the appearance of small branching "spider" veins often accompany this vascular condition.

Heredity is the primary risk factor for developing varicose and spider veins. However, pregnancy, extended periods of standing, obesity and aging can also contribute.

Peer comment(s):

agree Muriel Vasconcellos (X) : I think you're right. A varix is an enlarged vein, and even though these are tiny, they are enlarged for what they are.

Thank you Muriel - it probably is small varicose veins, it's just that I didn't see a term in between the two!
