It may look obvious at first, but I don't think it is peripherals. Are there any electrical engineers out there? Bless you. Kathleen.
CIRCUITO DE CONTROL
El circuito de control está realizado en torno al microcontrolador de la placa de control. Este microcontrolador dispone de los periféricos necesarios, controlados vía bus IIC, para realizar la gestión del equipo.

My husband, an electronical engineer, claims that you refer to peripheral circuits.
Hope it helps

Comment: "This is what I was looking for. Couldn't see the trees for the forest!
This micro controller has the required peripheral circuits, controlled via IIC bus, to manage the unit.
Thank you all so much for your help. This community rocks!"

peripherals / accessories / add-ons
Peripherals does seem to be the right term! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral
But if you're really averse to it, a couple of other suggestions.
If it were a car I would definitely recommend add-ons - they're kind of semi-optional extras. The car works without them, like the computer in the case of peripherals.

peripherals
Microcontrollers can have peripherals.
IIC should be I2C or I²C:
"I²C (pronounced I-squared-C) created by Philips Semiconductors and commonly written as 'I2C' stands for Inter-Integrated Circuit and allows communication of data between I2C devices over two wires."
http://www.best-microcontroller-projects.com/i2c-tutorial.ht...
"Synchronous interfaces were designed mainly to connect peripheral devices on the same circuit board, like external EEPROMS, A/D converters, display drivers and sensors to microcontrollers. They are only suitable to bridge relatively short distances (< 1 meter)."

Discussion
Memoria EEPROM en la que el microcontrolador almacena los parámetros de configuración del sistema, lo que permite que una vez ajustados los umbrales el equipo no necesita ser configurada a pesar de la falta de alimentación.
