español term
techado
The previous paragraph talked about the amount of clearance necessary between "techados" and overhead electric wires. I thought "techados" were "thatched roofs", but that doesn't make sense with the above paragraph.

Note from asker:
So the traffic is passing through a structure covered with a roof, and the clearance mentioned is between the roof of such structure and overhead wires? Okay, I think I get it now. |

: Yes, 'superficie de un techado' is the floor under a roofed area (such as a veranda).

roofing
la superficie de un techado = the roofing surface

Or you could even just use "roof" for "techado."

: NO, the pedestrians walk on the floor under the roof, not on the roof.

Oh, I read "zona por encima de la superficie" & "distancia vertical desde la superficie" and thought it meant space above the roof. I didn't realize "superficie" was the floor UNDER the roof. (As to pedestrians walking on the roof, I never said that! :-)
