My choice would be, simply, research is necessary. Not a 'necessary evil' - sometimes educational, sometimes confusing, sometimes tedious, other times enjoyable and fascinating, but most importantly: necessary.

even if it's something i'd never really thing of just reading about just for the hell of it, it's always interesting...like marine research into using currents to encourage more ecological shipping, or land distribution or the inner workings of government in small african countries. SOmetimes it's pretty dry and dreary, but no matter what i always learn something I can use next time. So it's never a waste of time.

I believe that research on the subject matter in both languages is both essential and a wonderful added bonus whereas we constantly learn and grow; it is an ongoing blessing that comes with our profession, and one of the (many) reasons why I love it and why I would never quit (not even when I hit the jackpot!
