Swimming Sep 11, 2006

Swimming is mentioned twice. Walking is not mentioned at all, but perhaps should be.

Furthermore, I think a better term to use would be "physical activity" rather than "sports", which implies competition when the intention is merely to ascertain activity.

Many sports Sep 11, 2006

I do many sports (swimming, table tennis, football, basketball, etc.), but not on a regular basis. Most of them are not on the list. What is the bio-rhythm. Do I need to maintain it?

I do sports/physical activity for fun and because it feels a lot healthier than spending many hours in front of the computer.

I agree with Henry. I go for short to medium walks around my neighborhood when the sun is not too strong. I have a pedometer that measures the number of steps taken, distance walked and calories burned.

Capoeira Sep 11, 2006

I have recently started to practice this fascinating Brazilian martial art and am loving it. I also try to go the gym as often as I can. I get very restless sitting down at my laptop for hours on end, and after working hard the whole day I really can't wait to leave the house and work-out.
I also find that physical activity helps clear my mind: no more thinking about that impossible technical term that I can't find anywhere,

More than one answer applies. Sep 11, 2006

Too bad our quick polls can't do "mark all that apply." I swim, as often as I can get to the beach, but also work out at a gym three times a week. Unfortunately, my gym is closing, so I'll be back to the pedometer and trying to walk 10,000 steps per day. Not nearly as much fun as Curves, but necessary.

Please combine the two "swimming" options. Sep 11, 2006

Could a staff member or moderator please eliminate the duplicate option?

We farm. I am snobbish that way - I want my effort to eventually result in food and the like.

Belly dance Sep 11, 2006

I discovered this beautiful activity one year ago and I'm fond of it, it enriches my mind, my soul and body and, yes, it's very helpful for my health too. It also had brought many ideas into my creative space (like embroidery, beads and such)

Hi! This could mean literally walking, brisk walking, almost jogging (entry speeds), so decided to stick to jogging. It did not occur to me that swimming was mentioned twice as I filled up the web form, then this can be consolidated into one choice, I do swimming myself it is soothing and gives an overall exercise. sofar only 10% have opted for this. This could have several reasons - availability of water or pools in the vicinity, or the time factor between work and sport. Best Brandis

Certainly the availability and location of water is a factor, but the same applies to others (how often can one scuba dive in a week?). I think the need to choose only one dictated the high number of "other" replies.

scuba is possible, if people are fanatic about it, it requires a lot of self-descipline as well. Till about two years back I used to go for it in Berlin once in 10 days. True, such a sport is not possible everyday. Also Scuba, Para-gliding, or speed-biking fall under extreme sports category. Some people may go for weekend speed-biking or para-gliding or even scuba.
