But ...
Many of them were for jobs of 10,000 to 20,000 words. I mostly do long jobs.
Also, I took off November and December for health reasons. I will be starting up again in January.

I tend to bill my clients for all jobs at the end of the month, usually 4-6 invoices, unless a client has given me work worth less than 100 euros and then I wait to see if I get more work from them and bill it all together. I have issued 48 invoices myself so far but three clients issue a payment slip to me every month, so that's another 25 or so.
I've issued 82 invoices so far, some refer to jobs over 30,000 words, but most are between 2,500 and 5,000 words...

Precisely.
One of my biggest clients requires one invoice per job done. Some others work with weekly or monthly invoices. Last year, I issued about 1,700 invoices and the same might happen this year. It would be chaotic without at least a good spreadsheet. But I didn't have problems so far.
Important remark: 100% paid

These are all monthly invoices, so there are up to 10-12 jobs on several of them. A couple are quarterly invoices.
I will probably end the year at 40 - 41.

But I am not sure, and am not going to count them now.
I have regular work from 5 to 15 customers every month.
But I usually invoice each project by itself, it gets too complicated to accumulate invoices till the end of the month, I only have 2 such clients.
Another reason why I don't allow accumulating invoices until the end of the month is the fact that it only adds to the payment term.

The financial year in Australia runs from 1 July - 30 June, so I'd have to get out last years paperwork to check. I issue one invoice per project, which sometimes means only a few sentences and other times it will be 10,000 - 20,000 words.
About 5 invoices per month is typical, in most cases I create an invoice for at least one month of work for a particular client. Invoices for single translation jobs are extremely rare.

... but what could anyone possibly want this information for?
Michael Harris, aren't you living in a country that requires you to assign consecutive numbers to your invoices? So why would you have to count them?
314 invoices.
Barring one client, I invoice every job.

Not quite true.
I have some companies here in Germany that send my their own invoices for me where I do not need to number them (been like that for years and my accountant nor the tax office have complained) as well as 3 customers in the UK.
And seriously, without looking, do you know which invoice number you started with in January this year? I don´t and am not really bothered.

Haven't counted. I see my ledger has 104 lines used in it, but there are a couple of bill-free lines between each month. You can work it out from there if you like.
It makes about 8 a month I reckon. There are several agencies for whom I just do one bill for all jobs completed that month.
But I am wondering why anyone would find this info useful. It looks like Teresa issues about the same number of bills as me, but her wordcounts are superior to mine, and I've no idea... But I am wondering why anyone would find this info useful. It looks like Teresa issues about the same number of bills as me, but her wordcounts are superior to mine, and I've no idea whether our rates are similar, and she works into a different target language and specialises in different areas, so the comparison doesn't mean much at all. ▲ Collapse
Mario Freitas Brasil Local time: 03:29 Miembro 2014 inglés al portugués + ... 132 (not an accurate measure, though) | Dec 10, 2018 |
I issued 132 invoices so far in 2018.
But this does not mean a thing, since I have several clients that require one invoice per month or every other week, and sveral that require one invoice per job. So you can't really measure anything from this number.
I think the question is: "How many words have you translated this year"
