Investing in a good monitor is worth it, but one doesn't necessarily need more than one screen. A big one will do just fine, if your computer supports the resolution. Especially if you use a cat-tool, a larger screen is very useful.
I most often work on one 23-inch screen, and hook up a second only if I need to compare documents, for example if I have a reference document I need to keep an eye on.

Three.... in my dreams! | Dec 2, 2012 |
last time I was looking into this (looking up ideal work-space configurations is a regular feature of my working life, by the way, ...... I have a lack of space, but one can dream!), I found that apparently Bill Gates has three screens: one to work on, one for email and the other for the internet. There you go then - three screens it is!

At the moment I have my laptop up next to the 'home' laptop, which is my useful second screen, although I do have to lean over a bit to access the keyboard - so not perfect ha ha.
Like Michael and Bill Gates, I reckon the ideal is three screens when working at home - the laptop screen plus two monitors.
Isn't it time to have the poll about cleaning our computers?
bring it on, I say. ▲ Collapse | | | Julian Holmes Japón Local time: 01:27 Miembro 2011 japonés al inglés Yes, bring it on! | Dec 2, 2012 |

They're ridiculously cheap these days so I have two big 'uns sitting on my desk, but then I have two desktop computers.
Being endowed with 3 monitors. Wow! I'm beginning to get monitor envy. | | | neilmac España Local time: 17:27 español al inglés + ...
Usually just one screen, on my main PC, which runs XP. Sometimes I use a laptop with W7 on it at the same time if I want to have the original text, or perhaps an annotated version of a proofer's comments, or some reference source, or some W7 application or version (etc.) open at the same time, but in general I prefer to work with just one. | | | Tim Drayton Chipre Local time: 18:27 turco al inglés + ...

Looks really cool. But placing another monitor would mean I wouldn't have a place on my desk to put my feet up, so I need to stick with alt-tabbing or printing the reference document | | | Jan Kolbaba República Checa Local time: 17:27 Miembro 2006 inglés al checo + ...

That's right, this set-up is spatially demanding, but I think it's worth re-designing the working space. Do you really print out your reference materials?

So when I'm working from a pdf I have the source on the left, the target in the middle, both showing an A4 page at normal size and the internet and email on the right.
It wasn't so hard to set up but between the graphics card, the three monitors and the monitor stand it wasn't cheap.

Nah, not really, unless its like a one sheet I can easily dispose of later - otherwise it's better to have it on something I can ctrl+Find
and it needs some cleaning around the edges. I do occasionally use a second desktop for tidiness. Two or three monitors would sure be nifty, but that would mean less space for books! | | | Páginas sobre el tema: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: How many monitors do you use when working?
