I recently decided to keep my rates the same for as long as possible and set aside any notion of raising them until the economic situation gets better, but that is more a matter of circumstances, more compromise than resolution. I don't like planning my life in general and try to keep it to a minimum. I may make some resolutions, or not, and if I do make any, I might keep them, or not. For example, I might resolve not to adopt any more waifs and strays that people keep "rescuing" ... Any time is a good time for resolutions... | Dec 14, 2011 |
Resolutions should be made when you are ready to keep them. It makes no sense to make a resolution just because it's January 1st or September 1st if you do not really plan to keep them beyond the first week or two... Resolutions, whether professional or personal, should be reasonable and attainable. It's the only way not to get frustrated along the way. I usually need some kind of trigger to make a resolution...

I don't make any resolutions per sé, only decisions, and these decisions are carried out immediately or, in some cases, as soon as possible. I have plans, both professionally and personally, wishes and dreams, but these are on-going and not limited to 2012 - or any other "new" year, for that matter.

Like a bath... | Dec 14, 2011 |
I make resolutions at least four times a year. I have not yet formulated it or them this time. (Well, one about not making such long posts on Proz.com seems to have been recorded in Danish!) My father says prayers and resolutions are like taking a bath. The results do not always last very long, but the procedure should be repeated frequently! They work for me. That's how I stopped smoking 30 years ago, and I haven't had a cigarette since. I make resolutions that are within my reach if I try just a little harder. My professional resolution is to leave room on my calender for my best-paying clients and never let myself be persuaded to lower a rate that I quote. The trick is that my standards are not impossibly high.
