estimated time of powwow Jan 25, 2016

Hi Kim, I'd like to join this powwow but I cannot come before the 12th of march. Will it start in the evening?
If yes, where will it take place in Arrecife, Charco San Ginés area?
Have a nice week and kind regards from Berlin,

Irene

Powwow Arrecife Jan 26, 2016

Hi Irene,
It´s great that you´re joining in! I´m quite flexible about time, I had suggested lunchtime, but evening is also good.
Let me know what you all prefer.
I was thinking of TABLA Arrecife (just opposite the Real Club Nautico, near the Gran Hotel) - how does that sound?
All suggestions are welcome, the most important thing is to get together.

Best regards
Kim

Wow, a Powwow locally! Jan 27, 2016

I never expected that as there are so few of us here in the Canaries. But it's probably a brilliant idea for translators elsewhere: attending a Powwow means the flights will be tax-deductible, so your holiday on Lanzarote (or here in Fuerteventuraicon_wink.gif) will be cheaper.

Can you accommodate someone whose Spanish is still pretty appalling? It's getting better every day but still not great, and it's an uphill struggle as you get older.

I would very much appreciate a lunchtime get-together so I can get the ferry home later in the day.

accomodation and meeting point Jan 28, 2016

Hi Sheila, there is an economic place which is called Pension San Ginés. It's next to the Charco, simple but clean and you pay only 22.- € per night(without breakfast, but you can get it there for just some €s until 10 am).

Hi Kim,
well next to Club Nautico is also next to this busy street, isn't it? I think I know which place you mean. Being honest, I think - especially for those who don't know Arrecife yet - Charco de San Ginés ist the most beautiful area to sit outside

There is La Bulla, La Raspa and some other great places with nice food and drinks, but it's up to you. Have a nice eveningicon_smile.gif

lunch time Jan 29, 2016

Hi everybody,
sorry, I'm definitely not able to come at lunch time. The day before I have to install for an exhibition in Frankfurt/M, and there is no early flight for the 12th.

Powwow Arrecife Feb 14, 2016

Hi all,

I´m so sorry for not seeing your comments sooner, I´ve been away on holiday and don´t seem to have received any notifications.

The Charco is a great idea Irene, we can go with your suggestion, though it would better at lunchtime for me too.
We could always change to the following Saturday (19th March), so that Irene will be able to attend? Does that suit everyone?
I´m very flexible, the main thing is to get together!

The 19th would be fine for me Feb 15, 2016

Pretty much any Saturday lunchtime will do for me, Kim; weekdays too as I can always work on the Saturday instead. As long as it fits in with my husband's gigging. He plays in the local bars some nights and I'm his (unpaid) roadie.

The 18th or 19th I'll be busy in Germany Feb 17, 2016

Hi everybody,
I'm sorry, but maybe I should better stay in Germany, because the 18th or 19th I need to deinstall my installation of the exhibition in Frankfurt/M. It would have been perfect to come over between installation and deinstallation. But no problem, don't care about me any longer and have a nice powwowicon_smile.gif

Anywhere's OK for me at lunch-time Feb 21, 2016

I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be replying to your message, Kim, as yours hasn't come up here. Most confusing.

However, I can say that Arrecife, Playa Blanca and Corralejo (of course) are all convenient for me. However, if there's anyone having to fly over then Arrecife or Puerto del Rosario would be the better places. Getting to Corralejo from the airport is a €50 and 45-minute taxi ride or a long bus journey and I think the same's true of Playa Blanca from Lanzarote's airport.

I´d prefer Playa Blanca or Corralejo Feb 22, 2016

Hi there,

I would prefer Playa Blanca, if its Lanzarote. Have we agreed on a Saturday already? I could make it on the 12th and the 26th and in April on the 09th and the 23rd. I would also prefer Lunchtime, evenings are tricky especially if it means moving from one island to the other. I don´t mind waiting until Irene is back.

Kind regards,
Yvonne

Arrecife or Puerto del Rosario Feb 23, 2016

Hola tod@s,

As I have to fly over from La Palma or Gran Canaria, I would prefer Arrecife or Puerto del Rosario and on lunchtime. March 12th or 26th or in April would be ok for me.

Best regards,
Karin

Should we confirm Puerto del Rosario 12th March? Feb 24, 2016

Hello everyone,

Taking into consideration that two of you are in Fuerteventura and that Karin is flying in, it seems only sensible to hold this Powwow in Puerto del Rosario. I may bring with me a fellow translator who isn't on Proz, but she'd like to come - her name is Isabelle Escoffier and she translates into French from Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. IS that allowedicon_smile.gif ?

If you´re all in agreement then I´ll alter the location and we can confirm a place, and as far as I can see March 12th is still good for everyone.

Thanks for all your input, I look forward to meeting you all.

Best regards
Kim

I'm getting dizzy :) Feb 25, 2016

Puerto suits me fine, although I was looking forward to an excuse to cross the Bocayna Strait again soon. However, I'm a bit at a loss to recommend a restaurant. To me, Puerto is where I go when I have tax and social security problems, not to enjoy myself! I've noticed a few on Google Earth that have nice views over the beach and harbour areas - El Mirador, La Terraza del Muelle and Mar y Monte. I suspect they're all over-priced because of that view though. Hopefully Yvonne will have a better id... See more

Confirmation: Arrecife, La Bulla, 12th March Feb 26, 2016

OK, this is final!

Hope you`re sitting down Sheilaicon_smile.gif - the Bocaina Strait it is!

After no further expressions of interest in Puerto del Rosario (admittedly it doesn`t look very interesting having checked it out on TripAdvisor), and that Karin is definitely coming and flying in - we´ll stick to the original plan and meet in Arrecife. Hopefully, for our next Powwow we can change to a different island.

La Bulla is a nice bar/tapas restaurant on the Charco San Gines and by looking at the flight and ferry times, 12 noon seems to be a good time to meet. For those driving in, take the sea road (El Reducto), drive in front of the Charco and park just at the rear of it where there is a gravel car park.

Karin let me know if you'd like me to pick you up at the airport, it's no problem.

As this discussion board is a little strange, in that you only seem to see the posts if you come directly to this page, I will also send a direct message to everyone just to ensure that everyone receives this information.

See you all soon.

Best regards
