Trados 2011 does OCR the pdf file and add it as a word file to the same folder.
You just need to open the word file and work on it.
Wish this helps!

I had the same problem, but I followed the steps listed by SDL and then applied the Perfect Match as [Ирина66] said, in order to show what I have translated until the moment of saving. It worked and I rescued my work.

You should change for "File Types" option from "[Tools]-[Option]-[File Types]-[PDF]-[Common]" before open PDF file or create new project.
Default setting of "Extract hyperlinks:" is "Always process hyperlinks.".
You change to "Extract only hyperlinks text" or "Never process hyperlinks".
After convert to SDLXLIFF file then you should test "Save source as.." before translate.
If you can save "source file(DOC or DOCX file)", it is no problem on SDLXLIFF file before translate.

Hello,
The procedure from the official SDL website works. It works in 2014 too. Complete all segments, change setting, rename the docx converted from pdf, open again, pre-translate, done.
Perfect. Thank you. | | |

Thank you. After trying the SDL's offered method, I came up with no luck, and yet another time I found myself at Proz.com, with the right people, offering right solutions. This time, this method worked fine to me.
P. S. "The context list is null. Could not get the last child." -- what on earth?.. if I had to translate this into any other language, I'd simply give up trying.

working with the word file does work, but you lose the page layout!
I am working on European CV that is 3 pages long, the word version (created by sdl) is 5 pages long!
Can someone help, I am using sdl 14.
I am having this problem but I don't find the Tools menu mentioned in SDL solution. Can somebody tell me where can I find it or send a screenshot. I am using Studio 2014.
Thanks!!!!! | | |
how to get to the TOOLS menu | Nov 20, 2014 |
well it is simple but not explained anywhere , if you look at the upper banner, let us take Quickinsert or Translation Memory . at the same level as the text there is a small corner with an arrow pointing down, you click on this and there you go

I then followed someone's suggestion of confirming all translation segments (so they are all in the translation memory), and then making a second copy of the source file under a slightly different name, adding that to the project, and getting Trados to pre-translate it. It pre-translated it, but still I couldn't save the target. ▲ Collapse

My PDF is 270 pages / 80K and I ran into this problem.
I did the SDL solution:

This did not help.
I followed the suggestion to translate the now converted word version of the pdf (add the word file as a file to be translated), but I ran into another problem:

I can take a look and see what I can do with the file.

Can you help me with this one too?
One NOTE: My file is not fully translated. I am supposed to deliver it in 3 batches. Is this going to be a (the?) problem?
I have saved partially translated files in the past without any problem and was not expecting this.
Thanks.

I have experienced the same issue and solved it by using the .doc converted file in the source language folder of the package.
Thank you for your interesting comments.
