español term

"curva de la muerte", tramo de las viudas” (referring to dangerous roads)

español al inglés Técnico/Ingeniería Transporte / Fletes
"curva de la muerte", “tramo de las viudas” o "punto negro".

I need two FUNCTIONAL equivalents for "curva de la muerte" and “tramo de las viudas” (punto negro is straightforward, black spot)

TIA:-)

blind curve AND deadman's stretch

I would NOT use widow in English...I would use DEADMAN...as in the Western type slang...Deadman's Gulch...it sounds better and means the same thing..

also...punto negro is a BLIND SPOT in the rear view mirror of a truck or car. I think all big trucks have them. Most cars have them.

cheers

FINAL AND REVISED: dead man\'s curve and dead man\'s strech of road

and blind spot

Peer comment(s):

neutral Richard Benham : A curve can be dangerous other than through lack of visibility. I like your other suggestion, but I would prefer "dead man's" as two words.// How about "devil's curve/bend", since you can't use "dead man's" twice. There's "Devil's elbow" near my place.

whatever Richard whatever...why don't you google trucking and hazmat and dangerous road conditioins
agree Jennifer Callahan : I agree with deadman's curve/stretch (yay Jan and Dean), but in Spain a "punto negro" is an especially dangerous spot on the motorway where accidents generally occur, not a blind spot.

Ok...Jennifer...believe you....but my husband who is from Sevilla says it means blind spot. Maybe it means both things?

\'Dangerous bend\' is another option for the first one
Peer comment(s):

neutral Richard Benham : "Widows' stretch" doesn't really sound right....

I know it's not brilliant, but couldn't think of anything better, somebody will, no doubt. I think that is a very Spanish expression and it always depends on the tone of the article.
