español term

ditirambo

español al inglés Arte/Literatura Poesía y literatura Rubén Darío
What would be the accurate translation for this word? I already searched in the glossaries.

Context (courtesy of the nicaraguan phenom):

"Era muy aficionado a las artes el soberano, y favorecía con gran largueza a sus músicos, a sus hacedores de DITIRAMBOS, pintores, escultores, boticarios, barberos y maestros de esgrima."

De antemano, muchísimas gracias.

dithyramb

It is a short poem, "in an inspired wild regular strain" according to my Webster's.

Thank you, José. I taught Modernismo for 18 years, so Darío has occupied a great deal of my life.
Note from asker:
Thanks for the quick response, Robert! I knew dithyrambus was the latin form, and dithýrambos was the greek. But, I needed the English form.

Sure thing, as you so wish

but I bet everybody (including me) will be looking it up in the dictionary.
I have never come across the literal translation in English, but there you go...

I am sorry to say I do not know Rubén Darío well, but I certainly know the name as I used to live near the underground station named after him in Madrid!
Note from asker:
Thank you so much, Lizzy! I think I might go with the literal translation, but I'll wait. I'll definitely check out your links. Un abrazo.
Oh, I totally understand what you're saying. I just needed the perfect register.
And, you're right about the profane part...did you ever the letter that Juan Valera wrote for AZUL...? I think folks were taken aback at the time, in spite of his talent. Do you know Darío well?
