: Given the '-iatrica' part of the expression, the most likely name for such an establishment would probably be, quite simply, a Nursing Home; 'Residential & Care' would appear to imply that nursing care is not provided.

care home (see explanation)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nursing_home:
In the United Kingdom, you have the right to choose your care home. Care homes and care homes with nursing are regulated by different organisations in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
To enter a care home, you need an assessment of needs and of your financial condition from your local council. You may also have an assessment by a nurse, should you require nursing care.
What are nursing homes?
Nursing homes as a term has been replaced by care home with nursing (apart from in Northern Ireland where it is still used).
http://www.housingcare.org/elderly-uk-nursing-homes.aspx:
Homes where nursing is not provided, formerly known as residential care homes, are now generally referred to simply as care homes.

assisted living facility
In the US at least, "nursing home" implies nursing care. "Assisted living" are community living arrangements that offer a range of amenities for elderly people starting at a level where they can still get around and moving on to nursing care if needed.
620,000 references for "assisted living faciity" with quotes - over 6 million without quotes. The first reference specifically addresses this terminology. The second reference says that this is the most common term.

I am deeply concerned that some colleagues are carelessly equating "geriatric" with "infirm." While "geriatricS" is a branch of medicine, it should not be confused with the word "geriatric", which ALSO refers to many other aspects that concern the aging population - for example, social adjustments and housing. If you look up "geriatric + living," you get "assisted living" "senior housing," "senior retirement living." Searching on the frequency of those terms, the result it is:
"assisted living" - 12,300,000 hits
"senior housing" - 4,200,000 hits
"senior retirement living" - 16,200 hits
Merriam Webster (the ultimate arbiter for US English) defines "geriatric" as follows:
1. Of or relating to geriatrics,
2. Of or relatiang to the aged of the process of aging.
Here are some of the other Internet definitions of geriatriC:
An old person; Of or pertaining to the elderly; Of or pertaining to geriatrics

# Relating to older people.

Take the non-medical example of "geriatric social work" (14,200 references):
Definition of Geriatric Social Work
Geriatric social work is a division of social work concerned with the welfare of the elderly. Geriatric social workers help senior citizens enjoy happier, more productive lives. Geriatric social workers improve the quality of life for senior citizens and help alleviate some of the negative aspects of aging.

I don't have a problem with "retirement home" - except that it's far less widely used (1,940,000 hits vs. 12,300,000 for "assisted living facility." It means the same thing - see the Wikipedia entry below:
A retirement home is a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly. The usual pattern is that each person or couple in the home has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. Additional facilities are provided within the building. Often this includes facilities for meals, gathering, recreation, and some form of health or hospice care. The level of facilities varies enormously. A place in a retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium.
**A retirement home differs from a nursing home primarily in the level of medical care given.** Retirement villages and retirement communities, unlike retirement homes, offer separate and autonomous homes for residents.

: I know which one is a noun; and which, an adjective. In fact, I just posted it on the discussion. Be that as it may, the term here is "residencia geriátrica", which I know first hand, I've been to one many times, and I can assure you it's a nursing home.

548,000 references to "assisted living"+UK. With 12,300,000 hits for "ALF" I think it's safe to say that it's used throughout the English-speaking world. Perhaps you are in an age group that hasn't had to deal with senior living arrangements.

Discussion
In its entry for noun, the Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary says of geriatrics: "plural but singular in construction: a branch of medicine that deals with the problems and diseases of old age and aging people."
In the entry for adjective, the same dictionary says: "geriatric. Of, relating to, affecting, or being aged individuals geriatric population in a nursing home."
That's what the Merriam-Webster's Medical Dict. textually says, and anyone can check it online here: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/geriatric
"Nursing home" is the exact translation for a "residencia geriátrica".
Kind regards to everyone.

I get the feeling that people who are making the "nursing home" suggestions do not have much direct experience in this area.
