Demandante en casos civiles se puede dicir de varias maneras, he aquí una lista no exhaustiva:
PLAINTIFF: en caso de demanda civil. Este es el término general.(Law) One who commences a personal action or suit to obtain a remedy for an injury to his rights; -- opposed to defendant.
CLAIMANT: (En un caso como el que estoy interpretando ahora en que se reclama dinero decomisado, o en inmigración cuando se solicita permiso para estar en EE.UU.)One who claims; one who asserts a right or title; a claimer.
PETITIONER: (En caso de divorcio petitioner)
n. one who signs and/or files a petition.
COMPLAINANT: (Law) (a) One who commences a legal process by a complaint. (b) The party suing in equity, answering to the plaintiff at common law.

En caso penal es el acusado en términos generales.
The plaintiff appeared and exerted her right to represent herself (or self representation).
