Without recourse: words that appear on a bill of exchange (letra de cambio) to indicate the holder has no recourse to the person from whom it was bought, if it is not paid. It may be written on the on the face of the bill or as an endorsement. If these words do not appear on the bill, the holder does have recouse to the drawer or endorser if the bill is dishounourd at maturity.

I sometimes receive bills of exchange here in Spain from agencies. If it is nominative, made out to me, I pay about €0.90 to have the amount accredited to my account, if it bounces then it is a valid judicial instrument for me to pursue payment. If it is not made out personally to me, I don't pay the €0.90 and should it bounce I would need to take the small claims in order to receive payment.
