español term

desaije

español al inglés Otros Agricultura
From a employment summary of a migrant farm worker in Western U.S.

Trabajé:
-Para Classic Salads en empaque de espinaca, espring mix y arugula
-Para Ramar Production en desaije de datil
-Para Datepac en empaque de datil.

This is most certainly a typo, but I can't tell what it should be.

Excellent research! Thanks Spielenschach1!

You're right - see link 'agree'
spanruss (asker) Oct 7, 2016:
More context Later in the document he says he harvested dates in August to October while the "desaije" would occur in May and June. So, it would indeed make sense that the same date trees would be thinned a few months before harvesting.

I have heard this term before but im not sure of the correct spelling or it's etymology in Spanish. Having been raised around agriculture in the Central Valley of California,' desaije' is known as 'thinning'.

agree José Patrício : Around April or May, as the fruit begins to "bud" on the strands, we will begin the thinning process. - http://www.dateland.com/how-are-dates-grown/

agree Robert Carter : Yes, I think the word is a derivation (and misspelling) of "desahijar".
