relato sobre Vanuatu

He had only taken him along, he added, at the viceroy’s insistence. And if the Viceroy had so insisted, he continued, it was to be well rid of someone who was known throughout the Americas as a troublemaker and good-for-nothing. Ochoa cursed the captain and swore he would have the crew seize the vessels. Quirós stripped him of his rank, clapped him in irons and had him confined him to the hold of the San Pedro.
They would reach Santa Cruz within a week, he claimed. Let there be no more dissension, he warned the crew.
To impress them with the full meaning of his words, Quirós had a block attached to the end of the yardarm and it cast a sombre shadow on the deck below.

Es cierto que yardarm también significa penol, pero penol es el extremo de la verga. Entonces, como tu texto dice \"to the end of the yardarm\", eso de \"en el extremo del penol\" me suena extraño. Es como decir \"en el extremo del extremo\". No sé si me entiendes.
Suerte.
