multithreading

inglés al español Técnico/Ingeniería Informática: Programas
I know the direct translation "multihilos" and its meaning as I'm a software engineer but what I want to know is what is the more usual practice in translation of texts from English to Spanish. Translate it as "multihilos" or just leave it as "multithreading"?

Or maybe some of the other less precise alternatives like "multiproceso", "multisubproceso", "multiprocesamiento", etc. BTW, "multiproceso" or "multiprocesos"?

Moreover there is the question of the gerundive. "Multithreading" is one and thus should be translated as "multihilamiento", which is very ugly from my point of view.

it seems that your audience is technical If your talking about multithreading I would dare to guess that your audience is pretty technical. There would be no need to translate this term for them.

or don't translate the term There doesn't seem to be a consensus on this term. Many leave it as it is, others use mutihilo, or subprocesamiento múltiple or multi-subprocesamiento. I've also seen it as multi-tarea in C++ and other areas, which actually means multi-tasking though they use it to refer to multithreading. It's your call.

Hi Pedro! I think I'd put it simply like this: "multihilo (multithreading)" since "multihilo" is the right choice but also putting in "(multithreading" which indicates the source of the selected term, telling the reader that both terms are used. I hope this suits your needs! Cheers!

As marylough pointed out, there does not seem to be a consensus on that question so I think this is the best answer. At least it'll be the one I'll use in text translations. Although ugrisa has a point in the sense that I will not probably say the same when speaking. So thanks.

hilos / hilos múltiples

Si no lo dejas igual como multithreading, que sería una opción que aunque no sea correcta a la hora de traducir, es adecuarte a la jerga informática, yo lo digo en inglés antes que hilos y demás cuando trabajo temas de programación, me decantaría por hilos o hilos múltiples, por una simple cuestión de hábito, multihilo no lo he usado ni oído en el lenguaje cotidiano, pero algún compañero se refiere solamente a hilos, o hilos múltiples para hacer hincapié en que son varios. Manía personal seguramente esta elección.

Gracias por tu respuesta. Precisamente he puesto la pregunta porque soy^H^H^Hera informático y el lenguaje cotidiano que usamos oralmente no es siempre exactamente el mismo que el que usamos cuando escribimos y este varía según sea más o menos formal. Desde decir "ipod" o "aipod", "bite" o "bait" hasta casos como éste. Y quería evitar lo que señalas: mis manías personales. :-)
