About the same Mar 31, 2020

I’ve just checked and regarding the number of projects it’s about the same, but I’m under the impression that I made less money. I’ll know the exact amount later today when I’ll issue my monthly invoices. As some of my big clients are shut down I’m expecting a downturn next month. We’ll see…

About the same, but last year I went away on holiday for the last ten days, and this time work slowed down due, I expect, to the Covid19 lockdown. I work a lot in tourism and with events organisers and museums, they obviously aren't in need of much work for the moment

You should really ask tomorrow when I've done all my invoices and can make a direct comparison with previous years

Would love to see this every month Mar 31, 2020

COVID is obviously causing upheaval, this data matches my anecdotal understanding from peers (a minority are gaining work due to the situation, a lot of people have less work than usual but not a majority).

As an aside, I'm surprised that several commenters have said they will know how their march was "after invoicing today". You don't keep track of your income all the time?? I have an excel sheet which shows me my running total for the month and year, and I wouldn't know what to d

March was basically a no-work month. Hopefully things will improve soon.

Slightly higher than last year Mar 31, 2020

But much higher compared to recent months. I also had a relatively slow Q4 in 2019.

Slightly better year on year Mar 31, 2020

Looks like sales were up 5-10% YoY. A change of that amount is just noise, really, given that orders are so lumpy, but I'm just glad that revenues are not massively down as they were in February.

Provided that I have a sense of where I am, that's okay. I do track income, but as nearly all my revenue comes from overseas the calculations are complicated by forex and bank charges, so it's never exact anyway.

I find Excel a bit inflexible for my purposes. I have a tool that parses my project folder names and calculates a total for the month based on that, which is as much as I care to do.

Generally I don't slouch into action after I have imported finalised data from the bank into the accounts software at the beginning of the month and exported a file for my main tool to slice and dice.

That generates pretty charts showing precise monthly summaries for the preceding four years, cumulative year-to-date figures, year-on-year and month-on-month comparisons, monthly data chunked up to quarterly data, and so on.

Horses for courses.

I agree with you I consider it very important, regarding the jobs in March, it was almost the same, but who knows for April?

I agree with Angie above - let's see what April brings! Mar 31, 2020

My March was actually well above the previous year - but the marked slowdown of the past week or so has me thinking that April will be a fraction of what it was in 2019.

As Covid-19 didn't start to have a major impact on many of my European clients, in particular, until mid-way through the month, it might be really interesting to re-run this poll next month and compare the results then!

Quieter Mar 31, 2020

In the beginning of the month, it looked like it would be the same as last year. But as of the 20th, things started to slow down. It wasn't a bad month, just a bit below average. But I'm afraid of what's to come now...

Very bleak Mar 31, 2020

The situation here is very, very bad. The year was not too bad to start with but now with COVID19 things have got so bad that my biggest new job since the outbreak was only 700 words.
I don't want to bring politics into it, but there is a plan now for vertical isolation, by which only people at risk would be isolated and companies can get back to work. I don't want to bring politics into it, but there is a plan now for vertical isolation, by which only people at risk would be isolated and companies can get back to work. Despite the serious drawbacks that could arise (less isolation could mean more deaths), if some companies went back to work then, for translators, things would get a bit better IMHO. But they can't get any worse...
Not sure what will happen as both possibilities have very serious side effects. If people return to work, less isolation could bring more deaths. If they don't, then the economy will collapse with millions unemployed and more deaths (from hunger).
