Learned it where the target language is spoken Aug 14, 2021

I had some translation courses back in my university days. In my case, sure I gained translation skills where the target language is spoken. But it takes more than what you learn in school to get good translation. it's a trend to have a native language speaker of the target language to do the task. But the results? It really depends.

Other Aug 14, 2021

I haven't had any "formal education in translation", and I never will. I've had countless evidence that it will not help me in my profession or my career. However, I did not mark that option, because I participated in a few conferences with other translators and mentors that were very useful in my career. These were not formal translation courses: they were a lot better than that.
