Most of my communication with clients is by e-mail and in Spanish. I prefer not to use the phone, as I rarely answer it during the day, mainly to avoid cold callers. I have a few client contacts who insist on communicating with me in English, to practise and keep their hand in. They tend to be senior management figures and one of them is based in New York.

English, French or Spanish, rarely Italian, depending on the country where the client is based, although these last ten or so years I have noticed a very interesting tendency, even among francophone clients, to choose English as the communication language. One of my French direct clients always adds a few Portuguese words to her email, which I find very considerate of her…

.. could have been a bit more subtle. English is both my source and target language, and I also communicate sometimes in Hungarian, my mother tongue,, which is also both source or target in lots of cases, and in Dutch, a third of my source languages.

All my communication is by email (and very occasionally WhatsApp): Half are in my source language (Spanish) and the other half in my target language (English). I never write in Catalán, because I'd make too many mistakes
