A funny sort of question, and in a way quite meaningless. Sometimes I get a bunch of smaller jobs which drive up the numbers, but drive down average earnings per hour, since their admin component is much higher than for bigger jobs. Anyway, I had no idea what my numbers were or would be, so I did a quick count from my jobs spreadsheet and found I had done 28 jobs during July - September. So, perhaps a bit more for the next three months, seeing that the summer doldrums are over? On t... See more A funny sort of question, and in a way quite meaningless. So, perhaps a bit more for the next three months, seeing that the summer doldrums are over? On the other hand, I have a few big jobs coming up, so the total numbers could be lower? As I said - a pretty meaningless question - but since it prompted me to write something here, perhaps quite clever? ▲ Collapse
I haven’t the faintest idea, for the moment I have nothing scheduled in the near future. Things will probably be as they have been in the last years (varied and hopefully enjoyable, exciting and interesting): 2019 October 17 November 20 December 12 2020 October 18 November 14 December 10 2021 October 16 November 15 December 6 2022 ?

If the question asked how many *words* we expected to translate, the answers might be useful. My favorite client sends me three or four jobs a day, ranging in size from 2 to 2000 words, but usually +-200. It's not a nightmare to do the invoicing, because every month they total the jobs and the word counts, and I only create one invoice for them per month. So I can expect to do well over 150 jobs in the next 10 weeks, but the total word count for that period would be more like 36,000 words.) | | | Dan Lucas Reino Unido Local time: 22:24 Miembro 2014 japonés al inglés 40-50, but the number doesn't matter if it's only idle chatter... | Oct 11, 2022 |
If you're working more or less to capacity, you'll complete roughly the same number of words (characters) in any case, but smaller jobs tend to be less efficient due to the admin required for each. I'd prefer half a dozen medium-sized jobs over a couple of dozen minor projects, but the latter is the pattern for me at this time of the year. Total of 40 at the low end, maybe 50 at the high end by the end of the year? Dan ▲ Collapse | | | How should I know? | Oct 11, 2022 |

Based on my average this year and historical data from the same period last year. I don't know how it will pan out in real life. Whether a couple of jobs or hundreds in a quarter, what matters at the end of the day is to work to full capacity, not more, not less. No idea. I mean, I've issued between 3 and 10 bills monthly so far this year, but since most agencies require me to add all jobs up for the month, that doesn't reflect the number of jobs. There might be anything from 1 to a good dozen jobs on those bills. I suppose I'll be doing fewer jobs than usual since I'm supposed to be getting a big job next week that'll keep me busy until at least the end of the year.
