As far as I'm not a translation zealot, about ten years ago I had to reconsider my well-being, making certain biz decisions.

Now I work with local direct clients mostly as an interpreter, diversifying the income via several activities--including those out of translation.

Moreover, if I don't like the results of the presidential election in March, I could move to a foreign country with a long-term contract--or even for good.

I’m too old for a career change and anyway this is the best job I ever had without comparison. It was the other way around: becoming a full-time translator was my big career change some 35 years ago and I have never looked back since. Would I change again? No, definitely not, I’m quite happy with the current state of my career and I’m not the retiring type: I just don’t have the personality necessary for a “happy” retirement.

No, but ... Feb 16, 2019

...the way things are going, I'm not sure I would recommend translation as a career for a young person starting out.

I transitioned into translation not so long ago, from another career. I'm here to stay.

I would only consider "transitioning" to a millionaire

No, but Feb 16, 2019

I'm in my early 30s, I'm not sure if I can imagine still doing the same thing for another 30+ years but I've certainly got no plans to change careers any time soon.

There's enough variety inside the profession so I don't have to transition out of it if I want a change.

Also, I'm a one-trick pony, and this is the only thing I'm good at. Always been.

The only difference: becoming a full-time translator was my big career change some 6 years ago only

No! Are you nuts? Feb 17, 2019

I did the exact opposite. I was a business manager for 20 years and I became a full-time translator only when I could no longer get a decent job. I regretted not doing it ten years earlier. I will never ever change carreers again.

Perhaps in ten years or so. Feb 19, 2019

I consider translations as a business, not as a career. Should enough time pass, and it will become just boring for me. Then I will choose another way of making money.
