I also use LinkedIn as my online CV more than Proz because of the flexibility in its design and layout. It looks cooler than Proz's drab "faded fake antique" look.

LinkedIn yes, FB no
the first is a professional network and to connect with professionals (including clients) is its purpose and the second is for friends and should remain as such

No social networks for me, thank you very much. No FB, no LinkedIn, no Xing etc.
Proz is the only site where I have a profile and I intend to keep it this way.

When I get a chance to go to LinkedIn, I do connect with one or two of my clients.
FB is absolutely out of the question!
I have a couple of clients on LinkedIn and many colleagues. We keep in touch from time to time. I answered "yes, but rarely."
I don't think it is necessary but I may be wrong. Is it a good idea to have a LinkedIn profile?

Like Julian, I keep a more updated and complete CV on LinkedIn than anywhere else. I use Facebook for family & friends, never for professional reasons.
One thing that bothers me is that some colleagues seem to leave proper etiquette and common sense at the door when they try to add me as a contact. I'm open to growing my network of colleagues and other professionals, but when someone sends me the default message “I like to add you to my network because you are a person I trust” I want to hurl and I delete the request.
When I check out their LinkedIn profiles on occasion, I make the time to write back (without accepting the invite) to ask them what it is that I can do for them, or how we can mutually benefit from such contact. Almost nobody has the common sense to write back; they just want to “friend” more LinkedIn contacts, which I believe is idiotic.

I honestly don't know how to take advantage of LinkedIn
and FB is only for friends and family.
I am quite happy with Proz.com.

I agree with Mario and Julian, I have several colleagues and clients on linkedin, but try to avoid them as much as possible on facebook. My clients don't care what about my dog's halloween costume or what I'm eating for lunch.
That being said, I do have a few translation related friends on facebook and some have turned into clients.
LinkedIn clients, FB friends | Oct 26, 2013 |
I use LinkedIn for clients and colleague translators. It's good to connect with people from the industry. Facebook is for friends and relatives only.
By the way, I've heard a story where a CEO told to his recruitment officer concerning new applicants - Check their profiles on LinkedIn, if they don't have a profile there, they don't exist.
Cruel, yes, I know... but that's the world we live in

I use Facebook for family and friends only. I do have a LinkedIn profile, but I must confess I find LinkedIn a bit complicated and haven't really got round to sitting down and figuring out how to use it properly.
