Término o frase en español: amarres
Country: Honduras
phrase is "rituales, hechizos y amarres" in a newspaper report

Everything I find lists "amarres" as something to do with ships. This contexts has to do with gang symbols and use of "Santa Muerte".
I find "hechizos y amarres" listed together a lot.

Traducción al inglés:love spells
Explicación:
The idea is an enchantment or spell which has an effect akin to putting a rope around someone, like a tether. A more cogent description could be "tethering spells".
"Amarre" is a mooring post for a boat, to stop it floating away... Hence the metaphor.

Obviously, there are different kinds, as Chema mentions below, but in general, I'd say that the popular catch-all term for this kind of thing would be love spell/potion/enchantment. For a monoglot audience, leaving "amarre" in italics might evoke a frisson of otherness that could prove desirable in flogging this sort of mumbo-jumbo to the gullible.

attraction spells

Ver pej.,

Por otro lado, la sugerente idea de tethering spells parece tener otro sentido en inglés;

Neutral  Chema Nieto Castañón: Hi neilmac! Not that I feel that the "science" of magic is such a thing, but amarres de amor, though being the more common "amarres", are not the only ones; amarre is a rather more general "attraction spell" and not necessarily a love spell. ¡Saludos!
