Given the new context I'd add to my answer already posted: "a desperate man", or even "a cry of desolation" for "el grito de un hombre sin rúbrica" i.e., the cry of a man without a hope in the world/ to cling to - which is how I rather loosely interpret "sin rúbrica" . This is literary after all!

Hmmm...it's a bit complicated. The man is being (most likely wrongfully) arrested for a crime against an up-standing member of the community. He is being carried away by law enforcement officers past the angry crowd, who are shouting insults at him. He cries the name of a woman "Oh, Hilde!" (it's implied that the name he shouts baffles the policemen, since they don't see what Hilde has to do with the murder). Does that help?

OK, how about some more context? I have some ideas for "un hombre sin rúbrica", but would prefer a little more to go on - so I'd know if I was anywhere near the mark.

What comes before or after, and why/how was this man in this situation?
