inglés term

radial cross palmar

inglés al español Medicina Educación / Pedagogía Occupational therapy
This is in an occupational therapy report for a 4-year-old child. I need to try to use a formal translation rather than just describing the pencil grasp, since the document has a picture of several grasps with the name of the grasp below it.

Pencil grip: radial cross palmar. I wish I could copy and paste the picture for you here, but "it" won't let me. Here's my attempt to describe it:

Forearm is parallel to the table but twisted outward, child is grasping the pencil with his fist, thumb down. The fingers of his right hand are facing out from his body to the right. The pencil is nearly perpendicular to the table.

OT report This report has several pictures of grasps with their labels, including quadripod. The therapist then marks an X in the box next to the one(s) that describe the child being observed or evaluated.

While doing research, I also came across Taña´s descriptions of radial cross palmar and palmar supinate grasps. It appears that the pencil "projecting radially" means the sharpened end is pointing down at the thumb end, and "projecting ulnarly" means it is pointing down at the pinky side of the hand, especially when comparing descriptions with the pictures.

@ Molly You mentioned that the child was 4 years old. According to my research, what you would "normally" see is what is referred to as "Pinza cuadrípode: Aparece a los 3 años y medio o 4 años. Los cuatro dedos participan en el agarre del útil. Ahora el movimiento procede de la muñeca y la mano, y hay mayor estabilidad de hombro y codo. Inicialmente es un agarre estático aunque puede evolucionar y convertirse en dinámico." https://entreteo.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/el-desarrollo-del-...

And the explanation here for "radial cross palmar grasp" http://www.scielo.br/pdf/jped/v85n4/en_v85n4a13.pdf is -
"Radial cross palmar grasp: pencil positioned across palm
projecting radially, held with fisted hand, forearm fully
pronated, full arm movement", whereas "Palmar supinate grasp: pencil positioned across palm projecting ulnarly, held with fisted hand, wrist slightly flexed and supinated away from mid-position, full arm
movement. Regards.

@ Molly Molly:
Have you looked at the first picture here: http://www.playdoughtoplato.com/pencil-grasp-development-in-...
I based my answer on my research. If you are in disagreement that is fine, but I therefore, cannot help further as I have given it my best shot! Regards.
MollyRose (asker) Jan 5, 2017:
presa palmar supinada/agarre cilíndrico is "palmar supinate," from what I have discovered. The child is holding his arm the normal way, inside of the forearm facing midline and thumb UP. What I am asking (radial cross palmar) is with his arm twisted so his thumb is DOWN.

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I can't accept "supinada" b/c of the hand position, but the references have been helpful for me to see what "cross" and "radial" mean here. This grasp isn't part of the "normal" development, as the palm is facing outward, not toward the midline."

agree JohnMcDove : ¿Como respuesta? ¿Presa palmar supinada? o ¿"Agarre cilíndrico"? Saludos y feliz 2017, Taña (¡y Molly!)
