Would anyone recommend CPT certification?

Clearly customers do not value any kind of certification, but certain certifications. Think about it: if you get/got this "certification" from CTP/GTI with no experience in translation, what does it say to you? Do you think this "certification" will be valued by customers?

Getting this "certification" by means of bought materials and an easy exam is probably not the best way of becoming an attractive translator in a mature market where there are plenty of postgraduate, qualified, experienced translators who have hard-to-get certifications with a low pass rate.

I encourage you to invest properly, and save your money for proper translation training/education, in preparation for exams that are difficult to pass and are therefore valuable. Yo do not need experience to take the IOL's DipTrans exams or to follow the distance-learning translation courses of a number of universities, for instance.
