Dear Colleagues, please forgive for writing in English, unfortunately my Porttugeuese is not existent.

Dear Colleagues, please forgive for writing in English, unfortunately my Porttugeuese is not existent.

Last year I spent some holiday in Portugal and bought me a mobile Internet card from Oferta Kanguru, which was a prepaid card with AFAIR 1 GB of data.
I have looked at the Kanguru page, but as it looks this offer is not available anymore.
As we will be in Portugal for holiday for two weeks again, I again need a prepaid Internet card. However I seem not to be able to find a proper offer - neither Kanguru nor Vodafone have something like that in their portfolio, at least as far I can understand what is written on the websites.

Could please someone help me and provide a link to an offer, where a prepaid Internet card could be bought? Or even better, getting the money upfront buy such a card and send me that via post? Of course I would refund all costs and this before the deal...

Thank you very much
Best regards
Jerzy

Mobile Internet Mar 15, 2011

Hi Jerzy,

I'm not sure what kind of card you need.
Could it be something like this?

Nearly that :) Mar 15, 2011

After having spent some time on googling I found this offer:

The "Tarifario pre-pago Always On" for 30 Euro would be what I need from what I can understand there.

What I need is just the SIM card for mobile Internet access with a prepaid amout of data and valid for at least 15 days. The lates offer for 30 EUR seems to offer 1800 MB data and is valid for 90 days. As I have a notebook with integrated UMTS modem, I just need the card and nothing more.
If you could help me on confirming that this what I assume here is correct I would then be able to try to buy such a card.
Thank you

Zapp Mar 15, 2011

Hi,

The equipment you've mentioned costs 29,90€ and includes 200 MB (valid for 30 days). You will have to pay an extra 30€ to get 1800 MB.
You should also confirm if the place where you will stay has enough coverage:
http://www.zapp.pt/cobertura

Hope that helps!

Thanks for looking Mar 15, 2011

So we're nearly there
The coverage would be needed in Falesia (hotel Alfamar Beach), but unfortunately there is no such place listed. The next place listed is Olhos de Aqua, but I do not really understand what they say about the coverage.
In fact I do not need the equipment, just the SIM, but put together it is still much better to buy the equipment and to recharge the card as to use roaming with its ridiculous costs f

GSM rather than CDMA Mar 16, 2011

Dear Jerzy,

I'd be delighted to help you, specially after so many good replies from you in the Trados mailing list!

Assuming that all you need is a SIM card to work in your existing GSM equipament, Zapp is not what you're looking for, as it doesn't work on GSM, but CDMA instead. So, the way I see it you'd be better off with a prepaid card from either of the 3 GSM networks in Portugal. Of those I recomend either Vodafone or Optimus (Kanguru).

With Vodafone and its Vita Net Plus pre-paid plan, if your charge your SIM card account with 10 Euros you get unlimited hours of access during 20 days and 600MB worth of data traffic; for 15 for one month, and 900 MB worth of data traffic; for another 5 Euros you get 300MB more of traffic, and so on.

The Vita Net Light plan has no limit of traffic, but a limit of hours - 1 Euro per hour.
Access speeds are 2Mbs for Vita Net Plus, 1Mbs for Vita Net Light

Take a look at http://www.vodafone.pt/main/Particulares/BandaLargaMovel/blm_recarregavel/blm_recarregavel_tarifario.htm and let me know if you need any further help with the contents or something else.

With Optimus (Kanguru) Time and Time+ pre-paid plans you get unlimted traffic, at about 1 Euros per hour of use. Speeds are 1 Mbs for Time, and 2Mbs for Time+

General Info about both plans here: http://optimus.pt/Particulares/Kanguru/OfertaKanguru/PrePago/

Detailed info about the Time plan, here: http://optimus.pt/Particulares/Kanguru/OfertaKanguru/PrePago/DetalheTarifario/time

Detailed info about the Time+ plan, here: http://optimus.pt/Particulares/Kanguru/OfertaKanguru/PrePago/DetalheTarifario/timemais

The Optimus Kanguru Easy pre-paid plan lets surf all day long for 3,12 Euros a day, 1 Mbs speed, 200MB worth of traffic per day: http://optimus.pt/Particulares/Kanguru/OfertaKanguru/PrePago/DetalheTarifario/easy

Let me know if I can be of further help.

Best,
José Ruivo

Thanky for the detailed description Mar 16, 2011

From your description I assume the best option would be Vodafone Net Plus, as it offers only volume limit, no time limit and is faster.
What I had last year, was a similar offer fomr Kanguru, but unfortunately it seems to be discontinued.
I'll contact you off list for further details.

Thanks a bunch.
Regards
Jerzy
