Depends somewhat on specialisations Jul 2, 2012

For me personally, my specialisations being marketing and tourism, the ability to reproduce the message in a natural way that will appeal to readers of the target language has to be the most important skill. If I were a technical translator then I imagine I may have voted differently.

Of course.
You are going to get nowhere fast if you don't have a top notch understanding of the source language and the abilty to produce excellent copy in the target language. If you can't reeed 'n' rite rite, forget it!
Some should.
