E-mail + WeTransfer Jul 7, 2022

Usually, in exactly the same way I have received the file(s), so e-mail for most of the files and WeTransfer for large and/or heavy documents.

iCloud via Airmail. It automatically generates a time-restricted link to large attachments that I send via e-mail.

If not via e-mail: I create a Dropbox link, e.g.:

E-mail Jul 7, 2022

Mostly by email, but one of my direct (non-agency) clients also has a platform specifically for their software strings, and that's what we use for that.

And any agencies I've ever worked with have used e-mails rather than a specific online platform.

Nice And Simple Jul 7, 2022

Book translations, always through email. But someone just contacted me within the last 15 minutes about working for them on a daily basis. If everything works out, that work will be submitted through a platform.

Client portals Jul 7, 2022

Mostly XTRF and Plunet nowadays, followed by the odd Memsource job delivered directly through the tool. My last customer to send and receive everything by email (or WeTransfer for files larger than 20 MB) has not contacted me since March.

It depends Jul 7, 2022

Mostly, I deliver via email, but some clients have vendor portals, so I have to deliver it there. Not so often, I deliver via Drive when the file is big.

On the subject of email:

I'm still looking for a *reliable* email client, because the ones I've been using are not.

AppleMail (which comes as part of the MacOS) frequently fails to connect to my provider's mail servers, sometimes for days and days;
Thunderbird always connects reliably to my provider's mail servers, but it has a very nasty habit of suddenly losing emails - or entire subfolders of emails - that completely disappear and cannot be found;

Webmail (of my provider, TalkTalk) - reliable but with a very poor UI.

I'm looking for something better. Any suggestions?

On top of the mail clients you mentioned I have Postbox 2, Canary Mail (end-to-end-encrypted; nice feature is notifying that the mail you sent has been read), Outlook (requires a subscription to Office 365), Airmail (very complex, very complete, 10,99 €/year). All these are on the Mac side. Currently, I use Thunderbird 102.0.1. I cannot confirm the problems you mention.
On the Windows side I have The Bat 10.

And, to answer the question of this poll, I usually use a mail client to transfer files. I often have very heavy audio files to send, in this case I use Wetransfer or I put them in my Dropbox and send a link to the customer for download.

The latest release of Thunderbird is 91.11.0 (Mac) so I assume you must be referring to the Windows version.
