Given recent political developments in my country, I am less likely to ever return to the USA.

I live in what is probably one of the best possible countries to live in, in terms of standard of living, social security and so on (generally spoken, of course, there's misery in every country), so no, thanks but no thanks.

I sold up my house in England due to Brexit and moved back to my native Scotland, because I no longer felt welcome.

I have not considered it | Jul 1, 2022 |
I moved back to Portugal in 2015 after 30 years in Belgium (family reasons, nothing to do with world events or economic pressure) and I have no intention of moving again as I am very well settled in Lisbon. The weather here is excellent (hot summers and mild winters), we have a very low crime rate and the standard of healthcare is good (though after Covid there have been frequent constraints in obstetrics emergencies due to a lack of doctors).

I was living in a big city 2 years ago. Life in big cities is not for me, it could be really stessful and expansive, so as a freelance translator I don't have to live in big cities to have more jobs opportunities, because it's all online. So I decided to get back to my small city, to live peacefully and I did not have any decrease in my wage at all.

Just like many others, I will be a climate refugee in a few decades and people who live in the best countries will have to make space for me. World events, economic pressure, then global food and water shortage. Given that I don't have the funds to look for Planet B, I'm looking into places like North Sweden or Iceland, together with highly destructive weapons to protect my potatoes and water condensing system from unauthorized looters. See more My client count has reduced to zero after February 24. I successfully take translation tests and receive messages like these: Hi, Stepan! Could you please provide your current location for further information? but their authors never return when they get to know that I am in Russia. Recently I observed a phenomena when a company that was looking for Russian translators cancelled their job post and re-posted it a week later with a specific job location: It does not matter any longer whether I am a member to proz.com or not. I wish I could relocate but, with my health issues (disability group II), I can't even move to a neighbor city not to mention countries. I have switched to photographing and DTP. ▲ Collapse
