However, one thing is sure: once I've started one, I find it increasingly difficult to drag myself away from it. If it's a good book, I'll miss meals and bedtimes during the last chapters if I can. My husband has to adopt the role of a mother and order me off to bed!

On average? Honestly, I don’t know! It depends on the book and on what else is going on in my life. I always read before going to sleep, sometimes just a few pages, others the whole book! So, it might take almost a month or just two or three days to read an entire book. I always have two or three books on my night stand at one time. Because I have two full time jobs, I only have time to finish 1-2 books per month.

Thanks for the reading tips, Teresa! I am always reading unless I am cooking or gardening or - as just now - shovelling snow, or working or other specific things. But the default occupation is reading, and has been since I was about four.

“Chanson douce” was published in English by Faber this January as «Lullaby» (https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/review-lullaby-by-leila-slimani-b9ndhsnc5). I’m not sure if it was published in Swedish as “Vaggvisor”…

I read quite a bit, but if we are talking about fiction (novels) it is probably only about 4-5 books a year.

I actually envy of you who can read upto 3 or more books a month. That is my capacity for the year.
My question is: as freelance translators who do translation, marketing, invoicing and etc 24/7, how do you manage to read 3 or more books a day, a week or a month? I love reading and don't want to read just a page or two everyday but go continuous and finish the book in two or three days, and doing that became almost impossible with my freelancing business as a translator and also wi... I used to read a lot, now I can just habitually skim through the most essential, interesting or important parts in a dozen books; mostly non-fiction.

I don't have a smartphone, so I don't wast time checking for messages all day.
I try to limit my TV watching to programmes that I actually choose instead of zapping mindlessly.
I stopped reading in bed and now deliberately make time to read, sitting up with proper light.
It's a choice. And I love it.

I read every morning and every evening.
No TV in my life so I read on average 4 books every month, unless I find 1000-page boo obviously
