No CATs, no TMs!

One CAT (her name is Mittens) but no TMs | Jun 26, 2017 |
And my CAT isn't allowed anywhere near the computer.

I believe in intellectual property.
When translating difficult texts you tend to loose money in the beginning because you have to establish the right terminology. Only when you get translations on the same topic / for the same client afterwards, you start earning money. So you shouldn't hand out your TMs because it makes it easy to source out further texts to cheaper and less qualified translators.

Yes, but ... | Jun 26, 2017 |
... only of the actual assignment itself. In any case they could easily obtain this - within a minute for delivery as xliff, and otherwise still possible by alignment. I never ever send TMs with other translations that I have not done for that particular client.
Khanda Polonia Local time: 09:14 polaco al inglés + ...
Because:
1. Nobody ever asked me,
2. Never had a TM. | | |
When working with CAT tools (and it's always the case), I always provide the TM export/bilingual files (as appropriate) about projects customers pay for.
If the question asks whether you give away your TMs indiscriminately, I'm not sure why anybody would do that.

Of course, I send back a return package if they provide me with a package that they have made the effort to set up and put together in the first place.
Otherwise, it's none of their business what means and measures I opt for to give them a quality job. Stands to reason, dunnit.

I'm not sure if I understand the question the way it is intended -- I understand it this way:
"Do you provide your clients with your own TMs *from other or previous projects before the start of a new project*?" (I. e., the client would be able to use my own TMs from previous projects to possibly lower the adjusted word count of a new job.)

If this is what the question is aiming for, the answer is "absolutely not". My TMs are my treasure; they are materialized experience that I can use for my own gain, if I choose to.
Obviously, the client can compile their own TM from my work on their jobs, and in server-based CAT work this will happen automatically anyway. ▲ Collapse

Nobody gets my TMs. My precious,...
(No, seriously, I don't think they'd be much help to anyone else).
I might occasionally share specific TMs with my 2 regular, trusted collaborators, although it'd be a rare occurence.
Bilingual files or TM exports | Jun 26, 2017 |
Like others, I always provide a TM export or a bilingual file of the specific project if the client is interested. Agencies usually are, direct clients usually have no way of using them.
I may also make a separate TM of a larger project with several instalments, which can be shared with colleagues or whatever.
But certainly not my personal TMs!
no.. my TM is MY TM
If they want to update their TM they need to provide it first and I will updated it for them (while working on their translation)

"Mine" or "theirs"? | Jun 26, 2017 |

The question is misleading. My projects are mine, hence the TM is mine, while the client's job is his/her; I provide in TM format, if requested.
Depends on the nature of the project | Jun 26, 2017 |
Once I even purchased recommended literature to complement my translation service, as the presentation of my translation depended on my client's understanding and fluency. It was a success.
Of course... | Jun 26, 2017 |
... along with my PC, printer and the keys to my house
That said, nobody has ever dared ask
