Staring at a screen all day probably hasn't helped much, but I think my slight visual deterioration is just a natural part of the ageing process. And I like my reading glasses - I can never have too many pairs!

How would I know? My eyesight may have deteriorated slightly in the (many!) years I have been sat in front of a computer screen, but that may be a function of age!

This is the feeling I get. When I had an eye test earlier this year, I was astonished to find that I could only see the top few lines of the chart with my glasses on - glasses that gave me perfect vision when they were issued ten years ago. I can only presume that this deterioration comes from working at a computer screen all day.

And I am starting to worry ... Am even thinking of getting an insurancy in case of an incapacity to work due to reduced eyesight.
My glasses are old and no longer the right ones. I will have to see the eye specialist.

Or at least I do not think so. Fortunately I have always had good eyesight (touch wood;-)) and even staring at my monitor 16 hours a day for months on end does not seem to have affected them.
I must admit though, I always have new large monitors every couple of years and I do not sit 5 cm away from them.
That may help, do not know.
Find it funny though as all other members of my family wear glasses.

It's hard to know since it's always been bad. It deteriorted very rapidly in the space of one week when I was 14 from being able to read everything on the blackboard from the back of the classroom to being unable to ready anything at all even by squinting from the frontmost row.
I have noticed a general drop in my vision these past six months at various distances which requires constantly taking off and putting my glasses back on frequently when looking at various documents on my de... Impossible to know for sure, as pointed out above, but my feeling is yes
All this staring at a screen/page is hardly natural behaviour

Don't know - never felt the need to have my eyes tested, but I can't imagine that all this screen-working helps.

I only began using glasses shortly after having started working as a translator and I can clearly feel it on days when I work a lot vs. weekends (where I don't generally work)...

Been wearing glasses since age 4, so I guess I can't quite tell the difference
