Yvonne Gallagher becomes gallagy2!
People have asked me if there's a gallagy1 but no, this was just my university login when I returned recently ('08-'09) to do MA in Translation Studies so decided to use it when I joined Proz. Also, I felt safer not using my real name when joining as I really didn't know anything about the site and privacy issues. So, I also didn't upload a CV.

I thought about changing to my "real" name a few times but have decided for the moment to stick to this. I've got used to it now! And I've been horrified by CV and identity theft over the past while so it's highly unlikely I will ever upload a CV here. ▲ Collapse

I randomly found Proz.com many years ago. I didn't know much about it and decided to give it a go. I was listening to U2 at the time and decided to come up with a funny name just because. I never bothered to change it.
I used my real name for a while but stopped when I realised that KudoZ comments and disagrees, fair and unfair, would be on Google forever.
I'm also prone to saying things in forums I later regret
I'm not sure that any of my customers would ever see any of this, or care, and my full name is readily available in my profile, but I really don't want people Googling my name and coming across some macho eejit... Real name, though no one gets it right... | Nov 12, 2013 |
My name is Triston, but I can't think of any of my Spanish speaking friends, colleagues or clients who believe me. My wife refuses to call me Triston and instead calls me by my middle name.

I use my real name here because it is a professional site and I want clients to find me. Everywhere else gets my gamer tag.

I don't have anything to hide, and I have the idea that it will help me get work. It also helps to promote my book ("Finding My Invincible Summer").
I can't imagine hiding behind a "handle" - it doesn't feel right to me.
"With a twist", if this is a right definition in my case )) | Nov 12, 2013 |
I use my own name, not an alias or something made up, though the spelling differs from that in my official English-language docs. That's because I know the origins and thus the correct spelling of my surname while the folks who issued my foreign passport neither know it nor care

like Triston said, I use my real name because it is a professional website and I use it also as reference when my clients want to learn more about my work/background.
(come to think of it, maybe "foxylady" would have brought me more clients, some even for translation jobs..)
Kay Denney Francia Local time: 15:37 francés al inglés
I obviously have a pseudonym.
I'm not here to find work and I prefer to maintain a low Internet profile because of bad stalking experiences. I do give my real name to those I choose to communicate with in private, as a matter of courtesy, provided we have struck up enough affinity.
My pseudonym is the name of the company I eventually decided not to set up, punning on my main source of translation work.

That's all of it. No extra bits, and nothing in the middle.
When I first got a hotmail.com account back when Noah and his family of furry friends were floating around in their ark, I had to be AllisonWright82. I hated that.
A lot of my namesakes must have opted out or changed their names because I managed to reduce my Gravator to 48 tagged on the end.
There are, apparently, 25 others just like me... See more That's all of it. No extra bits, and nothing in the middle.

There are, apparently, 25 others just like me on LinkedIn.
When I joined Skype I chose the higher number of several options: 22 - because of its symmetry.
Logan, of course, will always be Logan5.
If you're family, I shall answer to any nickname I have picked up on the way. If you know me incredibly well indeed, you can call me Al (or variations).
It is such a relief to have my own, full name on ProZ, coming to think of it! ▲ Collapse
