A compact web site which includes cv, past works and other information would be better. Such a web site will cost approximately 60 usd per year provided that you make design. Here is my web site for your information www.mehmeteminari.com . All advices are wellcome.
LinkedIn and own website | Jan 23, 2010 |
I haven't gotten any work from LinkedIn, but I like to professionalism of it, and it has kept me in touch with colleagues from my previous life as a staff translator. My own website is a repository of information about my past work, including writings on translation. I use Facebook to keep in touch with my far-flung family and personal friends. IMO, it would not be appropriate for promoting my business.

I think the clue is in the word 'social' media. I use social networking sites for socialising. I am on LinkedIn, but wouldn't consider that social media and I'm not active anyway. I use ProZ to promote my business.

I do not "promote myself" nor my business. The "bush telegraph" takes care of that professionally. On a more personal note, I go out there and actually meet people IRL

Like Mary, I wouldn't really call it social media, but it's similar to LinkedIn (perhaps more Germany/Europe-based). I haven't yet used it to the full, but I might go along to one of the meetings organized for local businesspeople one of these days. It hasn't resulted in any jobs yet, but I have been contacted by a couple of potential clients.

Mary Worby wrote: I use ProZ to promote my business. Me too. I use my profiles pages (Proz and others) to promote my business and it works fine. It is up to you to do the marketing. Is this "other" in the poll? Anyway, I voted "other". Walter

Mary Worby wrote: I think the clue is in the word 'social' media. I use social networking sites for socialising. (...)I use ProZ to promote my business. I agree. Also, I voted "n/a - other" because "none of these" suggests I use other sites that are not listed. But I DONT use any such sites for promoting my work.

I don't use any of them. Let me think... I registered on MySpace a few years back and quickly got bored and couldn't see the point. I get occasional messages from other Facebook/whatever users who want to add me to their friends network... that sort of thing. There's just no point on a professional basis - wasting hours and hours on these crappy social networking sites. Work to be done, other things to do, family life to live, etc... Oh, I'm registered on YouTube, because I love listening to music and watching music videos from time to time. You need to be registered with them so that you can leave comments. And I can't see the point of Twitter??? Not as a contributor anyway. Does anybody fancy following me on Twitter? I.e, read Richard Jenkins' daily exploits in the life of a technical translator? No, I didn't think so. Cheers. ▲ Collapse

I don't promote myself or my "business". My profile is available on proz. To me, sites like Facebook etc are for informal socialising, and I prefer not to mix "business" with pleasure.

Since the poll was about the social media I opted for LinkedIn. I think it will become significant media in the future, unless its real purpose becomes blurred by meaningless corporate talk. Btw, the connections are the real deal at this site. Facebook is too personal for doing business, and that should stay that way, IMHO. You could just as well visit SIGNATURE section of your email option, then copy/paste your Proz.com profile address there, then click SAVE.

Blog2Social plugin | Aug 10, 2016 |
Hi, For me my personal favourite is Blog2Social. It is one of the best social media platform for cross posting. The main thing here is there is no corn job to be done. Means there is no server side installation process. The best part about the plugin is you can post across all different platform from a single dashboard in which prefilled posting texts are provided
