NOT Sep 8, 2009

having to commute! having to buy a whole work wardrobe! having to deal with other people in an office environment! having to get up at some ungodly hour! having to wait to the weekends to go shopping! etc etc....

the income, however...well the level could always be better, but i'm doing fine and it's not like i have to eat gruel every day.

To think how dearly I love this job yet how much force fate had to apply to make me catch on to it ...
Thank you for being such a pighead, fate.

Not to have a boss you hate. Not to work in a cubicle like a worker bee. Not to pretend you like your work mates and go to those vile office functions.

Being able to wake up whenever you like (except when there's a deadline of course). Being able to take as much vacation as you like (assuming of course that you've worked your a** off for several months).

Yes, Marlene! I agree with everything you said, except I have to confess, I DO eat gruel every day (because I like it).

all of the above, but especially the variety of work Sep 8, 2009

I really enjoy reading about new things, and feel lucky that I can do it for a living. The fact that I have to type out a translation while I am reading is a minor nuisance, but it does make me pay closer attention to the text than I might otherwise, so I actually learn more. Not everything is interesting, of course. Some of the most profitible work, like highly repeptive manufacturing SOPs is not very interesting at all, while some of the most interesting work, like medical journal articles,... See more

Not everything is interesting, of course. Some of the most profitible work, like highly repeptive manufacturing SOPs is not very interesting at all, while some of the most interesting work, like medical journal articles, is a little less profitable because of the necessity to do some research. And of course, I get easily sidetracked - I go online to check the spelling of something, and I end up trying to figure out how to cure it - it does drive my hourly down a little.Collapse

All of them, but Sep 9, 2009

if I have to choose, it must be that I'm my own boss.

If I wasn't, I'd be told when to work, where to work, what work to do, do it or else!
