Hello there!

I am translating a document that has a small legal section in it. It is basically a letter from the "Secretaría de Gobernación" in Mexico telling someone that a request has been granted. The sentence is "[...]así como al escrito sin fecha ingresado a esta Dirección por el mismo medio en fecha xxx, mediante el cual desahoga la prevención realizada mediante el folio número xxx".

I have looked up "desahoga la prevención" and it seems to be used in Mexico but nowhere else, there are quite a few instances of it in google. I think desahoga can just mean "present" or "execute" but I am unsure as to how "prevención" is translated.

Any ideas? Any Mexicans out there ?

I know it's a tricky thing this - I was going to put the whole paragraph in but actually it's not that much clearer! In any case thanks for your input and I think I can find a solution. I don't actually think the exact meaning in this case is incredibly crucial, so I may wing it slightly :). Thanks!!

CONTEXT I think Mike is on the right track, but I don't like to answer unless I have a handle on the whole thing, including what leads up to the phrase, what this "prevención" specifically consists of and in general, what the subject is. In my own work I have the entire document to refer to, but here I don't, yet you cannot put it all in here either!

Hello there

Thank you Henry. The letter starts by saying -I refer to your letter datedxxx where you request xx, and also "al escrito sin fecha.... mediante el cual desahoga la prevención". I think Michael Powers might be on the right track with discussing the preliminary hearing...

CONTEXT There are some Mexicans out here, but it would be necessary to know what is being referred to, and that will take some analysis on your part.

It could be either one depending on the context. With the limited context we have, I would opt for "warning;" however, if the rest of your context seems to indicate a hearing was already heard, then "preliminary hearing" would be more appropriate.

Es lo que deduzco del uso de la frase en el siguiente ejemplo:
La solicitud debe cumplir con todos los requisitos para ser analizada y evaluada por el Consejo Directivo. En caso de que la solicitud no contenga los datos o documentos requeridos, la SE prevendrá al solicitante por escrito y por una sola vez, para que subsane la omisión en un plazo de cinco días hábiles contados a partir de que haya surtido efectos la notificación; transcurrido el plazo correspondiente sin desahogar la prevención, se desechará el trámite.
