What exactly is the problem here? KudoZ is for the benefit of the asker, so when you are given an answer you like, then why not take it? Okay, so perhaps wrong answers are put into the Glossary, but the glossary, as with ANY WEB OR INDEED PAPER PRINTED RESOURCE should be taken with a pinch of salt. I NEVER trust dictionary entries 100% -I\'m sorry but this forum topic seems to have been blown out of all proportion.

How can the Asker know | Sep 26, 2002 |
Hi everybody, sometimes I\'m also disappointed and It has happened to me that the question awarded didn\'t match exactly. But let me ask a philosophical question: if the asker raises the question often based on a lack of knowledge, how can he then judge what is correct or wrong? Very often he can only rely on his own intuition. I would also add that translation is not mathematics.
Well no exactly
Kind Regards wildlp ... See more Hi everybody, sometimes I\'m also disappointed and It has happened to me that the question awarded didn\'t match exactly. There are various ways to find out which answer is the most appropriate one (note that I deliberately avoid terms such as \"right\" or \"wrong\"):
- Answerers\' experience (as indicated in their profile, probably on their web site, to a lesser extent by their number of KudoZ)
- Grading by peers
- Experience of those adding peer grading comments.
What\'s required to make this process work, of course, is to leave the question open long enough (what period is \"long enough\" can differ, according to the complexity of the query).
Finally, the glossary entries are checked by other members as well as by moderators, and can be edited. ▲ Collapse | | | emphatic yes - for being paid well | Oct 1, 2002 |

Well !
Everything is understadable knowing that the first one who replies have 80 % of chances to win the poll !...
Also ( after checking with my \"customers at first sight\" ) the KudoZ points influence the customer to choose you... ( I know that a bunch of translators will be very angry but pls forgive me - it\'s true...).
BUT THE WORST OF ALL is when a wrong translation is choosen when you are confident that your was the (of course) only good one... | |

I\'m a newcomer here on ProZ, but I note that everyone tends to talk about \"THE answer\" to a question. Rule 3 says \"Asker awards points to MOST HELPFUL answer\". Maybe this should be stressed and restressed. An answer coming in after a previous CORRECT answer might actually contain more USEFUL information than that answer. Of course that implies a dash of Asker Education so they use ProZ \"correctly\" (as I see it). | | | Ralf Lemster Alemania Local time: 21:28 inglés al alemán + ... Unfortunately you didn\'t say what you do in such cases. Let me tell you what I do: I contact the asker and explain why I believe the chosen answer was wrong. This is not about gaining KudoZ, of course.

If you believe an incorrect term was chosen for the glossary, do not hesitate to edit it (as far as I can see, your KudoZ total should allow you to do so). If you\'re not 100% sure, contact the moderator for the language pair concerned. ▲ Collapse | | | Ralf Lemster Alemania Local time: 21:28 inglés al alemán + ... Response to Nikita | Oct 14, 2002 |

You can find in the glossary only those terms (answers) which have been entered there by Askers or by pros-winners.

Not quite. It\'s true that the original entry is generally made by the asker or the answerer whose proposal was chosen as the most helpful. But glossary entries can be edited (by ProZ members with a certain minimum number of KudoZ or by moderators) - so if you believe a wrong answer was chosen, don\'t get angry - contact the moderator for the language pair involved.
