Trados, Studio 2011/15, WordBee, Wordfast. By proficient I mean I can use them to deliver the jobs that my clients request from me. I cannot however say that I am able to use (or know about) all the features, capabilities, etc. of each individual tool. I have to say my favorite, so far, is Trados, the old Trados...

2 versions of Trados | Apr 3, 2017 |
The old version and the new Studio. I didn't like Studio at the beginning, but am getting to know it better now.

Leaving out "None" as an answer seems to assume that this would be an impossible answer. Glad to see I am far from the only one to keep CAT tools at arms length.

I really have no problems with cat tools, I can use sdl 2011, 2009 and all other versions, trados 2007 and other versions with workbench, wordbee, memoq, across, cafetrans and the very bad memosource. I think that more or less they all work in the same way.

Definitely, the most accurate answer | Apr 3, 2017 |
EvaVer wrote: Teresa Borges wrote: None! I use WF, but I am certainly not proficient in it. Proficient? None! I use WFC, used WFP for a while, didn't like it. I have used both MemoQ and Passolo with client-provided portable licenses. However I can't be considered "proficient" in any of them. I am proficient in translating EN < > PT. I am truly a native speaker in one of them, usually taken for a native speaker of the other. I speak IT/FR/ES for my personal use. Now and then they are useful to access reference material while translating EN-PT. However I am not proficient in these three to translate them. They are merely TOOLS, like in CAT tools. Another reason for me not to buy Trados. It may be taken for granted that the many agencies that bluntly demand "MUST have Trados" (even in jobs where NO CAT tool would be of any use) require full proficiency in using it. I use one CAT tool I bought for my convenience. Any client demanding the use of a specific CAT tool is expected to provide it, including training (if necessary) and support. I used MemoQ under these conditions, and everybody was satisfied with the outcome. .

on how you see 'proficiency' I guess. I have used various versions of Trados over the last 10 years. I use Trados 2017 for some jobs now and find it less annoying than its predecessors, at least for the short time I've been working with it.

I also wonder why "none" was not offered as a choice. After all, whoever concocted this poll surely cannot have their head in such a dark place as to be oblivious to the fact that there are considerable numbers of translators who do not use any CAT tool.

Here I join all who chose "None" as their practical choice
